Insurance wont total my car!!!!!! Need feedback ASAP

My (baby) 2002 acura tl hydroplane off the road and slid into a water ditch. The car, still on at the time choked in the ditch due to water blocking one of the exhuast. Exterior damage; crushed quater panel (so bad it ripped the gas tank cap off yes the fuel cap), folded the end of the rear passenger side door, ripped off the bumper and 6in of water damage inside the vehicle. The car actually shut down all electrical components due to the water leaking inside. My car went 50mph+ into a 3 foot + ditch. Insurance says is $2000 short of being totalled and said that they .would air out the interior. This makes no sense!!! What do they not understand about water damage!!
Need some feedback on this guys..thanks

If totalled, next car will be a TL.

how many miles are on the car?

who is the insurance provider?

what is your coverage?

are they replacing all of the parts with OEM Honda part's? that usually raises the estimate price alot.

i doubt the engine is hydrolocked. sounds like the engine died because the exhaust was blocked with water.

it doesnt sound like your car has enough damage to it to total it out honestly. which is good, because it wont have a salvage title.

get a bunch of estimate's, have them cut you a check to have your car repaired at the most expensive shop they will pay for (have them give you the check, so you can pay the bodyshop..otherwise you wont see a dime)

once you have the check, go to the cheapest place you got an estimate from, and have them repair the car.

once repaired, sell the car, and use whatever money is left+ the money from selling your TL to buy a new car.

its common sense really.

just water and some body damage?

I don't think it needs to be totalled. It can get wet, but not flooded and be fine.

Must of hit some serious water at 50mph to hydroplane. I hope everyone is alright. Hydroplaning is one of the most avoidable causes to accidents next to drunk driving...

Just get it fixed, it'll be fine. And before anybody makes the retarded "it'll never drive the same" statement, body shops today are leaps and bounds better than they were even 10-15 years ago. The new computer controlled equipment makes the repairs so precise that you'd never guess the car was in an accident in the first place. But if you cheap out and go to some hole-in-the-wall shop, well, you get what you pay for.

With all do respect...you quote of hydroplaning is hocus. It's no way in anyshape of fashion one of the most avoidable causes of accidents. Unless you suggesting to not drive in the rain...... This in not the first time my car has hydroplaned.... it has hydroplaned @10mph making a right turn. Also when I asked the police Sgt. the day of about the cause my accident, he replied. "it's a common occurence at this section of the road". He also showed me treads in the grass where a truck did the exact. Basically, my chances of hydroplaning were much higher than average. Good news and bad news though, they totalled my car due to suspension and water damages. The water got into the electrical system and gas line...
Thanks for your input guys. Bad news.... Im going to miss that damn car...
pics coming soon.

Thanks guys and Rob

I was going to say have the dealer check the electrical and determine that water has damaged the sensors for the SRS airbags- that would have put you over, looks like thats what happened

Any crash you can walk away from is just a piece of propery that can be replaced
Many ziners have fallen prey to too fast a corner entry speed and swapped ends or gone off the road as described

Hydroplaning can occur at any speed- while more likely above 55 mph, enough water on a slick portion of road, maybe water running across the road at an angle....can put you sideways at 25~

Check your tire pressure monthly- winter keeps changing temps, and air pressure often drops several psi- that will mess you up in the rain!

Isn't is actually `good` news that you will miss that car?
better than- that frikken pos is finally gone!

Go find another TL- look in the Off Topic section for the dedicated thread of ziner cars for sale
or get a good deal on something with better mileage... but half the fun

The electrical damage caused by the water put him over the top. Otherwise, they would've never totaled it.
