Insurance whoas!
well, i'm about to get my TL and have everything worked out, payments, everything with the guy at the dealership, and i go home to work on insurance. well, seeing as how i'm only 17 and have a whopping 1 POINT on my liscence! the company chose to jump my rate to $7000.00 a year. seven thousand. what the hell and i supposed to do to get that much and pay off the car. i'd rather get a pinto and drop twin turbo in it for that much. anyone got any ideas???
i need help bad!!!

i haven't yet. i was getting it in a month, but doesn't look that way anymore. and yeah, i was going to pay for it myself. i guess i'll just drop a new trannie in the car i have now and get a TL later, unless there is any other way to get low insurance.

Duh, try and get insurance elsewhere. Try to get on your parent's plan. Drive without insurance (you didn't say good advice).

Why is it so high? (Not being from your state, I am confused). My best friend's wife is the shittiest driver on Earth, and she only pays $3,000. Granted she is 25 years old, but she has had 5 speeding tickets, and she has been in 4 accidents (all her fault).
I guess I will second the advice for shopping for another insurance company. Also, what are your premiums set at? I am only paying $1,000 a year and that is with everything maxed out because I use the car for business.
So, what the f*ck? Ask them why it is so high. Tell them you are not the primary driver, whatever!! I know your young, but damn, that's ridiculous.

Once you turn 24 your insurance goes down. Then you have nothing else to look forward to.
I'm 20 and I pay about $1200 a month. I have a driving with no insurance and a failure to yield. I'm on my parents plan and my insurance company is Grange.
What you have to do is try all sorts of insurance companys. Make sure your deductible is as high as possible.
Good luck.

Just keep the car you have now... Get your parents to get the car, but you pay for it. After that, just drive the damn thing whenever you want!!! Your paying for it... Just drive really carefully and don't wreck it.... Remember, don't include your name on the TL.

That's bull. I have a friend with a Porsche 996 and pays substantially less than that. They just don't want you as a customer!

Unfortunately your age works against you. Till you are 24 or 25, or happen to get married, you are cosidered a high risk category by insurers. And they have reams of data to back that up as an age group. Your one point further highlights you as a risk. The cheapest vehicle class for you to get insurance will be a domestic, two-door, full-size pickup truck. A brand new, luxury car. Sorry, you may as well forget it or pay through the nose. I remember when I was 25, married, no points, trying to get insurance for a Porsche 924: next to impossible. At least your researched it prior to buying it and finding out you couldn't afford it. One suggestion: try nationwide. I think they have a program that may fit your background, assuming you have a good academic record.

I didn't have insurance untill I bought TL couple month ago, I'm 26 and was driving since 16 in my car, registered to my father and insured to my father... my name was never mentioned anywhere on the insurance... no problem! Even had couple accidents and still NO PROBLEM!!!

yeah, as long as you are insured in one policy in the household, usually you are insured under the household umbrella. Well, thats the case with my StateFarm insurance.
So, if you have an older car in your household you can just be the primary driver for that car and have your parents put the new car in their name. Also, by law the new car's owner must be the insured one, well thats what StateFarm said to me when I got my previous and current car.
Thats the best advice I have for you in this occasion, which I have done in the past.

Try and talk your parents into letting you onto their policy as a part-time driver of the TL. Offer to pay the difference, whatever it is. It will surely be less than $7000! Your other option is to find a different insurance company. Try GEICO, Progressive or some other dot com web sites. I have Allstate and they have been excellent and their rates are competitive. They have a web site, call centers and you get an agent assigned to you. Most important thing is to spend some time and shop around. Get some quotes and then compare the rates. Remember, the cheapest rate may not be the best insurance in the long run. Good luck.

Thats f**cking out of line. Tell them to go pack sand. Im 21 with full coverage with state farm (have a few tickets ) but I'm only paying 135 a month. Hell when I was 16 I was only paying a max of like 225 to drive a integra. And it should be better because its a luxury car. Check with other companies , ask them to explain in detail why its so much and hopefully you are able to move on from there.

Our agent person is a very nice person. I talked to her and told her me situation -- I need insurance but I'm young with tickets. I said I needed a high deductible to keep the cost of the premium down. Also, I don't drive my car to work so I said I'd only drive about 8000-9000 miles a year. Not sure what else you can do but talk to them and try and figure out why they're trying to screw you over. :/
25 or something? Nah, I'm not even old enough to qualify for 401k where I work, how lame is that?!?
