Insurance Coverage

Does full coverage car insurance cover loss of belongings (ipod, cell phone) while they sit in the car and someone breaks in? Also, what is required to prove the loss?

Sorry, but the short answer is no.

"Full coverage" is a misnomer. There is no such coverage as "full coverage" - it's just a phrase that agents tell you because most people don't understand what the different coverages do (and agents don't necessarily do a good job of explaining them, either.) Hopefully, you have a combination of coverages, such as Liability, Collision, Comprehensive, Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury and Property Damage, and Rental. In general, these coverages are intended to apply to your car, not the contents inside it. If you have Homeowners Insurance, you may be able to file a claim for those items under that policy. You will usually need to present receipts as proof of purchase when you submit the claim.

I suggest that you ask your agent for a copy of your policy to make sure that you really have all the coverages you want/need.

Good luck!

If you have renters (home) insurance it DOES cover items stolen from your car. I have renter's insurance and had my labtop stolen from my car and they covered it. They cover any property that you own that is stolen and it doesnt have to be in your house. Not a bad thing to get. Hopefully you have renter's insurance.

It all depends on your policy. Your best bet is to ask your agent. Every one has a different policy. Mine does, any thing in or on is covered
