Installing a Steering Wheel

I recently got a replacement steering wheel for my TL, no not a wood one, just good old stock because my old one was getting worn. Anywho, is it easy to remove your wheel and airbag and put it back on a new one? I don't want the Airbag to bust me in the face or me to take it apart and it it be completely too complicated. Any DIY? I searched steering wheel and I didn't see anything.

unplug the battery first and wait for about 15-20 minutes, and also make sure you have the radio code

You'll need a wheel puller...

Also, there are four new screws that come with new steering wheels... These are used to secure the air bag... You can reuse the old screws, but Honda does not recommend reuse due to the sensitive nature of the air bag...

I talked to the dealer and they said that they would not install old screws unless they were 100% sure that there was no damage to the screws...they always use new ones...again, as Honda recommends...

Just thought you'd like to know...

I bought a second hand wheel, and had the dealer install it... I had to order (in advance of the install) these screws...

Just curious - Including the wheel, screws, labor, etc, what did this cost you?

Wow. I got a take-off (not used, probably replaced with woodgrain) wheel from a TL-S off ebay for $1.50 plus $10 shipping. Looks like Acura of Seattle is overstocked. I plan to install myself and reuse whatever screws I remove. $250....GEEZ!

You're kidding right?

$250 for a woodgrain steering wheel including installation and the missing airbag hardware?

The wheel alone goes for $500 at the dealer... Some have reported being asked to pay ~$150 for the install (granted the screws have got to be cheap)...

You didn't say woodgrain in your original post so that was an awful deal compared to mine. Sure a woodgrain would cost more. I just bought a leather/woodgrain wheel for my Expedtion for $125 + $10 shipping +$11 tax. I plan to install it myself like I did on the Acura, so I'm still saving $100 over your deal. Installation really is a DIY if you have the procedure, as detailed in this PDF:

So given that, nope I'm not kidding. I got 2 steering wheels, one of which is woodgrain, installed for $158. This judgement is based on the fact that I'd NEVER pay the $360 some are asking on ebay. That's just a crazy price.

Here's a WOODGRAIN one for LESS THAN $180! Again, installation is half an hour of your own time and maybe $10 for ground shipping.

You are right...for some reason, I remember this being a woodgrain wheel thread... It's an old resurected thread...

OK... Sounds like you got a good deal...

On a different topic (and I may just need to start a separate thread on this:

Will my 2003 TL-S original wheel fit on my 1999 Honda Odyssey?
