Information for my mechanic (tranny rebuild)
So I have this mechanic who doesn't charge a lot because he just moved here and is starting up his shop. He's charging a total of 1250 to rebuild my tranny with a one year warranty and unlimited miles + labor.
That is EXTREMELY cheap, so I was wondering if there is any information I should tell him before he rebuilds it so the tranny will last longer. I don't want some cheap rebuild that won't last long after the one year warranty wares off.
Also, other shops are charging 2500 - 3500 for rebuilds compared to his 1250. Everytime i go to his shop he has multiple BMW's/Acuras/Volswagons/Toyotas in his garage so I don't see why he'd have a lot of business with high end cars if he wasn't good. I assume he is trying to get his name around and gain some "street rep" for more business.
Point being! What all should I tell him to take care of during the rebuild?

The important thing is for him to get a premium clutch kit for you. Pay him the extra to order the best kit he can find as it's worth it for longevity. I think the consensus here is to get kevlar clutches. Do a search.

Ya can only hope that the guy is around when ya need to cash in on the warranty. He's apparently getting business due to his lowball pricing, maybe those high end cars are turn overs for dealers who just want a quick and cheap fix to make the car available for resale. Confucious says: "Never assume" !!!!!

^ Maybe!! It's a possibility. I have had a few friends go in there and got their car fixed for cheap and quick.
Can anyone link me to the correct Kevlar clutches for a rebuild?

Ask our mod fsttyms1....he likely knows a good manufacturer for these clutches.

My understanding of the issue is that if he is just rebuilding the same original style (defective) transmission case/housing, it will have the same issue as before. I haven't had to deal with that issue so I'm sure others know more, but I'd assume you would want to have the newer style case with the better fluid flow to the affected area.

Ya could've done the Accord swap and been good for several more years. IMO.
