Info on SRS warning light
Hey, the other night out of no where my SRS light when on. SRS light is warning light, when the automatic cutoff switch is activated on the airbags, so the airbags won't open at all if needed to.
Anyone had this problem with the SRS light? or how to get rid of it? (keep in mind that i hate the stealeriship that is around me, brooklyn)
thanx

well, where I live (Brooklyn, NY) we have the worst dealership ever...So i always try to avoid it as a plague. Why is it the worst dealership in the world? Well because they dont know anything (im not even joking), they rip you off for everything, and the wait there is ridiculous.
So PLEASE if you find anything about about this SRS bs, please let me know bro, thank you!

It can mean 1 of 2 things, either there is a malfunction and u really should have the dealer look at it (try Paragon Acura in Long Island City if it's not too far) or it came on for no meaningful reason and it just needs to be reset with a computer (that the dealer has as well) or a good mechanic that works with Acura's and invested in the money for the Acura chip.

have you done anything recently to *anything* electrical in the car that might have caused it? you may laugh, but even something as simple as adding neons has caused it to come on for some people.
i wrote a post on how to reset it once, and so have a few other members. i recommend you reset it. it's very easy. if it comes back on, have it checked out. if it doesn't then it's a fluke. good luck.

There was a similar post to this topic about two weeks ago. I have a 2000 TL-P and took it to the dealer a few weeks ago to have the SRS light checked when it came on. In my case, the dealer took my $80 flat fee to check the car out and told me it would cost me $600 to fix the shorted circuit board under the front passenger seat. This really pissed me off since I bought the most expensive extended warranty and it won't cover this repair. And to kick me while I was down, they also said that the driver side seat heater is not covered as well. Only the back rest heats up. I know that isn't much of an issue now but come winter time, I'll be cussing up a storm.

Here are the instrustions for resetting the SRS light.
1. two wires green in a yellow block (small)
2. under dash left of steering wheel as the driver sits.
3. smaller yellow block is the right one and is located one inch above another bigger yellow wire block which has a spring loaded connector.
Jump it with the paper clip, turn the car on, wait for the SRS light to go off, yank the paperclip out. It'll light up again, shove the paperclip back in...then it'll turn off. Yank it out. It'll then blink twice to tell you it's reset.
Don't worry about the timings...just do it as soon as you see the light change (and do it quick).
I cut a thin paperclip to about 2cm long, then bent it with needle nosed pliars so it looked like a staple. Then I just used the needle nosed pliars to push it in and out of the plug. Just be careful to shove it into the right side of the plug...the one side of the hole doesn't contact the metal.
(instructions copied from DareIL)
im gonna try this later

teknoking---what do you mean by reseting the SRS light---does that mean just to turn the light off...or does it make the system recheckt to see if there really is somthing messed up?

it resets the SRS light, if there is something wrong, it will pop up again.
im thinking mine went on because i replaced my 1157 bulbs with LED, probably change in the electric draw from the battery changed.
I'll reset it, and i'll see what happends.

Well, my SRS light came on again. I noticed that it came on right after the passenger leaned on the side of the seat, cauzing that yellow warning light to go on to sit straight, right after that the SRS light when on..
The first time it went on because I installed 1157 LED bulbs which are lower wattage than stock, which cauz hyperblinking....
I'm sick of this crap. Its like Acura made a great engine and forgot about everything else in the car.

hey guys i was just gonna start a new thread, coz i m havin the same problem as well. Few weeks ago i tried to start my car and the battery died on me and it just wouldnt start so i jumped the car and went and got myself a new battery installed in it, and since that day the SRS light is on . I hope it ant the circut as someone mentioned earlier, and it took 600 bux at the dealership to get it fixed. Has anyone any idea how to know if its the circut or is it just a warning thing ?

Well finally got an appointment to take my car to the dealer to fix the SRS light....they had to replace an OPDS Unit which set me back $267....thanks for teh suggestions for the reset though.....
Oh and btw....Newark, DE Acura is the worst in the country....horrible service....and everything takes so long there...i once waited 4 hours for an oil change!
Do any of your Acura dealerships give out loaner cars too? My dealership offered me a shuttle service.lol.

Dealer caused my SRS light to come on...
Took my 2000 TL in to get the transmission mod done. While they had it, they discovered that there was some type of a seat belt recall out on the car. Had to order part, it's vin specific. Told me I'd need to come back in a few weeks.
When I started the car, I noticed the SRS light was on for the first time. I went and grabbed the service manager. He told me he turned it on to remind me to come back for the seat belt recall.
No telling if it's related to your problem or not, but that's why mine is currently on...

theres a recall on something to do with the SRS light, mine's in the shop right now(not just because of the srs light), my dealership didn't say anything about ordering a VIN specific part, they just have to do the recall on the seat belts...there's nothing on owner link about it...mine came on when I just changed the lights around in my car and got a new battery...

it happen to my 00 tl so many times that i lost count of it.
for the first couple times i took it back to the dealer in brooklyn and they said they changed the module and the seatbelt and some others stuff for no charge ( under warranty ), but in reality i think they just reseted the srs light for me, because after the service the srs light still comes on.
i got so pissed of bringing it back to the dealer because i alway have to leave the car there for a few days, so i came up with a solution, i made a switch to reset the srs light.

Thanks to all above the instructions worked. My light must have been set off by a low voltage indicator. My battery was over 4yrs old I replaced it today and followed the SRS reset instructions and NO MORE SRS LIGHT!!!!!. The battery showed no other indications of being weak, still a green indicator on the OEM battery. But I thought it was worth a shot at such an old battery.

When you go to the dealer to get something like this reset, they charge the one hour minimum labor. The dealers who are charging something like $267 the replace something are just gouging you. By replacing a part they get the 50% markup on the part plus more labor. These charges are effectively just a surcharge to increase their profits.

There is some TSB on the seatbelt connector causing this i believe. Do a search I think someone even posted the actual TSB. But if you had the vehicle in 4 times I would think they would have done this already though.

I just put in a very high watted system in the tl. Before the "side airbag" yellow sighn came on, and off. After the system the "srs" light came on and the "maint reqrd" light came one... I'm goin to the stero shop and have them look at it to see if the system effected it. I'll reset the srs system tomorw and see wut happens...... does this mean until the srs light goes off the airbags are useless?

I finally discovered why my SRS light goes on, today it was the 4th time it went on.
Anytime I do some electrical work, the light goes on. I installed brighter neons, and it went on.
its freaken weird, but thank g-d for the reset option
