inexpensive modification ideas for my 99 3.2 tl

Hello, I am brand new to this and any help you guys and girls can give me would be greatly appreciated. I have 1999 3.2 TL and I love it. I want a little more out of her though. I was thinking of spending about 500.00 to start and then go from there. My windows already have platinum tinting and now I want more power without killing my gas mileage. What are your best suggestions?

Thanks, Shaun.

...if done by yourself. Removing intake resonator and shift plate mod is fairly easy I think, but clearing headlights...I'd let someone with more experience in doing this (it's one of those easy said than done type of mods).

If you want power than an AEM CAI is the way to go. Nothing sounds better than VTEC howling with a CAI!

I gave the link for the resonator and the shift plate, just remove that little oval/square plastic piece then just pop up the black plastic around the shift plate, then unscrew the shift knob, then pull off the shift plate.

get some grafittii remover (however you spell it!) from home depot and spray it on, then just rub off the outer layer and there you go - that exposes the chrome color underneath! easy

on 99's only, the shift plate has a layer of paint on it covering up a chrome finish

you can, like OU said, take some graffiti remover and take off the paint to reveal that chrome finish
a lot of people on these boards like that, i'm not a big fan

what i did, was take off the shift plate, as well as the plastic piece that surrounds the shift knob stick, the thing that slides around and covers up the underneath stuff as you shift to different gears

i painted the shift plate a different color of silver, and painted the underneath thing to match it....i think it looks 100 times better than the stock look

i'll try to find a pic of what i'm talking about.....there's one around here somewhere

Sorry, but I'm not too familiar this. Can someone tell me what exactly this is.

What mods do you guys do to it?

Pics will be helpful.

Thanks,

So the shift plate is right inside the car in front of the console/armrest, do you have to remove the wood trim too get to the screws to take apart the shiftplate? And what do you do when you get to the shiftplate, lastly will it give me more power or harm my engine or tranny?

The shift plate mod is for cosmetics only.... It will not hur anything. You don't need to remove the wood.

Try reading the posts. OU already posted a link showing how to remove the intake resonator.

http://www.abunchofcars.com/diy_pag...l/resonator.htm

It just makes additional growling sounds. It won't provide any power gains. Might be more benficial with a high flow drop in filter. Like the ones made by K&N and Comptech for our cars.

hey thanks guys....i will admit, i got the idea from another board member, can't remember who though

my shift gate was kinda scratched up, so i just decided to rough it up a bit, repaint it, along with the inside piece, so they'd match perfectly.....i was so satisfied when i got done

i've been thinking about painting the radio knobs so they'll match the shift gate too.....what do you guys think??

anyway, i found the shift knob just randomly at auto zone i think.....when i got it in the car, i realized the champagne/tan part of it matched the leather pretty closely, so it looks good i think

New HID bulbs? If yours are the original from 99 they're probably pretty faded. I got a nice looking set of 6500k for 140 bucks shipped.

Changing out all of your interior lights/licence plates is pretty inexpensive as well
