Improved Powertrain Control Module

Sup everyone I got this postcard in the mail a couple days ago. Did anyone else get this or know what it is? Has anyone got this done yet? Any issues?

Improved Powertrain Control Module

In September 2003, we notified you tat improved parts are available for your 3.2 CL/3.2 TL. We have developed an enhanced Powertrain Control Module and, for some vehicles, a new fuel pressure regulator. These new parts improve the performance and durability of your transmission. We are offering you these parts free of charge.

According to our records, you have not yet had your vehicle updated for new parts. Please contact your Acura dealer immediately and make and appointment. This free update ends on October 1, 2004.

When I had my tranny replaced, dealer also installed new powertrain control module and a new fuel pressure regulator. Since I did not know that these parts are available or needed, I haven't asked for them. Apparently, there is some kind of TSB that specifies installation of these parts along with transmission service.

I have 2000 TLP.

i just talked to my local acura dealer and they claimed this is not true about the october deadline. now i'm not saying you're lying or they're lying, but this is odd. my local dealership is rated 3rd in the country though, and they claim you only need the ECU update if you have your tranny changed out.

now this could easily have been a mixup or something like that. you may want to call your local dealer and clarify everything for yourself. please let us know what they tell you. thanks.

Unfortunately based on what I've heard on the board, the "improved" PCM is not an improvement. It is actually designed to prolong the life of the tranny. If anything, you will lose the ability for the auto tranny to shift at the higher rpm range. Search the CL board for more info.

Indeed. My PCM was replaced in October with the new one and it cripples the 1st to 2nd gear change. It shifts at like 5600rpm now at WOT if I leave it in D5. I use gateshift for best acceleration.

Mine shifts the same for 2-3 3-4 and 4-5 but the 1-2 shift is crippled completely. The car feels weak on a 1-2 shift unless you use gateshifting.

that would make Zero sense to help the tranny since the problem isnt the 1-2 shift, but the 2-3 shift

I should throw a :edit: in there and say mine has always shifted about 2-300 rpm Before redline in first since teh day i bought the car and it never changed after the pcm

Didn't make much sense to me, either.

Edit: Actually after watching my uphill, no gateshift 0-60 video it shifts at 6000rpm. The shift just feels a lot softer than it used to, like the transmission is slipping the shift. I don't like it.
