I'm new...

Hey everyone, I just joined here. I just recently picked up a 2000 TL and I'm pretty psyched to get things started on it to make it more fun to drive. So, here's the first bit of things I have in mind:

Tint the windows
Replace the Bose sub
New head unit
New rims & tires
Tinted tail lights

There's more I want to do, but those are just the things I want to focus on first. So my first question is, does anybody here have the factory Bose sub replaced with a 10" sub? I know that Bose one is some stupid size like 8" or 9", but I wanted to know if anyone has had a 10" sub installed or customized it themselves to go in the same location. Also, I want to know where I can pick up a double din stereo mounting kit for a good price. I've looked all around but have only seen some nice ones for a ridiculous price or really ugly ones.

I'm thinking you would have to cut the hole bigger to fit a bigger sub and you need to find one with a REALLY SMALL mounting depth. No double din kits available (commercially).. I think uncald4 makes some but like you said they are really expensive.

Oh, Welcome

Welcome.

Sounds like you're on the right track with the mods.

Hopefully you're well aware of the problems with these cars. I'd save for a new transmission and/or the 105k service as well.

Welcome.

You will have to custom make a double din. there arent any available that im aware of. Sub, the rear deck isnt designed for something larger. Put in a sub box if your looking for bass.

Welcome

As far as the sub, many people have replaced the stock sub with a Kicker RMB8, which is a shallow-mount mid-bass driver. You need to use a spacer to adapt it to the stock mounting location.

Yeah, I do know about the transmission problems. I actually work at an Acura dealership, so I was able to look up what recalls and warranty exchanges have been done (as long as its been serviced through another dealership). The next service will be the 90k and I can get all the stuff for cheap and give one of the techs a 6-pack or something to hook it up for me. Everything I want to do to it is basically aftermarket and we Acura has shit accessories when it comes down to it. Anyway, thanks for all the help everyone. I'll continue to look into modding the stock sub to fit the sub I picked up.

I actually scooped up a 10" sub from edesignaudio.com. Here's the sub I picked up. http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...roducts_id=106

I think it will work out pretty well. The depth is pretty short and I think a spacer will make it happen.

BTW, does anybody know of some good components to put in the front doors that'll fit without having to modify the mounting bracket? I think I'll just mount the tweeters on that black plastic piece by the mirrors. Any thoughts?

There is not much room underneath the cover that sits above the sub. You may run into problems with a 10" sub. The stock sub is 9".
