Ignition switch recall?

Anyone hear anything about this? A friend called me and was reading off of a website that Acura was recalling 99-03 TL's for the ignition switch. Sorry, I did not get the link.

The ignition switch is for the 99 tl only.
It's a recall too.

I was just told I need my ignition switch replaced. I called about the recall and they said that it was not covered because my car is canadian.

That's what I get for buying it used from a wholesaler.

Damn canadians....

Wow -

I just want to apologize to all Canadians right now.

I called Acura of Canada and they told me because it is a safety issue I cannot be denied service in the United States even though my car is Canadian.

Turns out the dealer is just trying to screw with me. Acura of Boston sucks. They still gave me crap when I called them on it!

I'm taking my car elsewhere as I already called another dealer and they are getting me in as soon as possible.

Unbelievable.

you should take it to the dealer who refuses to do it-make them spend their time and energy fixing a warranty repair, but then spend your money elsewhere!

One second I was driving fine and the next the power was off. It was like someone pulled the plug right out of my car. Walked the car over to the side of the road, tried to turn it on a minute later and everything seems to be fine now. Pretty scary though as if I had been on the highway, well, I might not be writing this now...

Well, they are charging me $90 for the diagnostic test but they want to charge me another $90 to figure out the problem with what happened last night. They said they would have to run a different test to check the charges and it could be the altinator or something like that.

Any guesses out there?

Thanks
Did you get your $90 back for the diagnostic test?

They only charged me $27 for the diagnosis on the ingnition switch because the figured out the problem after 15 minutes...

Never gonna see that $27 again...

They haven't even called me back about whether or not they would honor the recall.

Again, to anybody out there, never use Acura of Boston. Terrible. Scam artists.

I would report them to Acura how they were trying not to service your safety recall.

They are the #1 dealer in Massachusetts. Acura probably loves them.

The best was when I told him about how Acura of Canada said they can't deny me service he goes " Well, that is very weird because we have had hundreds of Canadian cars in here with people spending thousands of dollars and we tell them their warranties are not valid in the United States...."

That's when I lost it and screamed at the guy that it sounds like they have been ripping a lot of people off then.

Pretty much ended the conversation right there.

If you want to really put a sliver in their side... call the local news station and tell them. There are some news stations that have someone that "fights for the consumer" via phone interviews and in-your-face video questioning. Tell the news place what the guy from Acura told you.. basically they are illegally charging customers for their warranty work. That would be a nice header to a story... "Acura of Boston charging customers for warranty work. Find out if you've been paying for free work....story at 11"

Most likely nothing would come of it, but you might get them some bad press .
