Unhappy Iggy's tranny died

Well, I was hoping I'd get lucky, but I guess not. It happened very suddenly with no warning. The VSA off light came on along with the check engine light and from that point on, 3rd gear won't engage. 1st, 2nd, 4th & 5th all seem to work but 3rd just slips. This is in all modes...D5 auto, SS, and gate shifting. The VSA off light disapeared but the CEL is still illuminated.

It's at the dealer now so I'll have details later on what they find. They gave me an '03 bonneville:yack: . It's kind of a pig, but If this is going to take a while I'll see if I can get an Acura of some sort from them.

The vehicle in question:

'02 TL-S
WDP
23,000 miles
Don't have the Vin handy but I'll find it later

What do you guys(gals) think, Is this a simple solenoid problem of some sort or a full tranny swap?

You need new tranny & torque converter. They shouldn't give you any hassle.

btw, see if you can find out if your ECU will be getting changed/updated also. I am very interested in this piece of the puzzle.

Thanx

I'll let you know. I told the service manager that if they are going to wash it that I want it inside for the night(because of the temps). After taking a drive through the lot after hours, the car was nowhere in sight so they must have taken it inside.

When I took the car in I told the SM that while I had the car in I wanted a few TSB Items looked at:

1) sunroof squeek
2) seat belt squeek
3) warped rotors(although they are not that bad)

After filling out the paperwork the guy asked me if I worked for a dealer. I just simply told him no.

It's nice walking into a dealer knowing what the true deal is, thanks to this forum.

I'm sure I'll hear from them tommorrow as to what the deal is. I'll keep everyone posted.

It's pathetic! I swear that it's 100% of us on this board sooner or later. How can they still be reporting only 2% or whatever???

I have NO FAITH in this car anymore... even though I totally enjoy driving it. But it sucks to have that constant worry in the back of your head as to when your time is up?

Sorry to hear that Iggy,
Keep us posted as to your opinion of the replacement. i.e., Have they supposedly TRULY found the REAL cause of these failures and your replacement has had better parts installed? My worst nightmare is going through this and still having no more faith in the new box than the old one. Just another time bomb band-aid? I sure hope not. Let us know what they tell you about the version and "trustworthiness" of your new tranny.

Again sorry to hear about your troubles.
