Idle

When i first got my car it idled really quiet and the engine was barely audible. But not if im waiting at a traffic light, it is a lot louder. Especially when the transmission is in P, the engine sound can be heard from inside the car. Anyone else having similar problems?

ive had my TL-s for two months. i can hear it, but you also have to remember, that you or we as the driver can hear and feel and notice $hit that no one else will. when i ask people in my car if they can hear or feel what i hear.. they say nope. so. its probably just you. maybe you should have someone in the car and see if they can hear it.

That's the valves tapping. This is been discussed extensively for Accord V6. If you drive your car hard, even hydraulic valves will start tapping bad. The good part about this is, the valves can be adjusted just like the valves on the 4 cyl. Hondas/Acurs. The bad part about this is, the labor to adjust the valves on these V6 cars is super expensive. One was quoted $350 at a Honda dealer to adjust valves on Accord V6. One has actually done it himself, however, this is not a project for a normal person. It took him a good 6 hours to do since the rear cylinders are hard to get to. You also have to take off the intake manifold, intake, throttle body, and cylinder head covers before you can even begin.

ahh damn that doesnt sound good, is that sort of thing covered under warranty. And how soon does this usually start to happen (how many miles) I have 9k on my TL already cuz my parents drive it a lot. And btw....I like those silver inserts in your TL looks a lot better than the fake wood junk.

No, it's not covered under warranty. This sort of thing is like brake pads, normal tear and wear. Your engine will still function perfectly fine with the valve tapping, but loosing a tad of performance. The exact time when it happens is unknown since it depends on how you drive your car. This is why for 4 cyl. cars, you are suppose to adjust the valves every 15K miles or so. Hydraulic valves, which is what we have, are suppose to be better about this with "self-adjusting" capability, but they evetually start tapping as well. I just chose to ignore it now since it's so expensive to get them adjusted.
