Post An idiot put 87 octane in my TL!!!

A stupid idiot put 87 octane in my Acura 2002 TL Type S. Does anyone know the repercussions of this lame ass mistake???? Will this create any long-term effects to my baby?

Thanks in advance!

I wonder if it's the same idiot that pumped 87 into my car 2 weeks ago when I asked for 93. Same thing happened to my friend at the same gas station. pi$$ed me off!

2 tanks later with 93/94 and the car is fine. I wouldn't worry.

can you clarify though as to how did this "idiot" put in the wrong octane gas into you're TL-S and it so happens that you didn't catch it right away and how did you catch it later????????????
no long term harm will occur but just add octane booster would help.

No long term problem.
You should experience lower performance from decreased horsepower output.
Just make sure you put premium next time.

I got full serve and I didn't realize that they put that cheap ass gas in my car until I got my credit card receipt.

While looking at the receipt, obviously the price was lower than usual and then I noticed the 87 octane on my receipt! What a fricken idiot!!!! Don't ever go to Cheveron in Orange County!!!!

That's it... that is where you went wrong. Do not ever get full service! Why would you? They charge you more for pumping gas for you (and cleaning the windshield), all of which you can do yourself.

I never get full serve. But I was on a business call at the time and needed to get to the office quick! So I didn't have time to wait around...hence the full service. It was worth it in the end though because I landed a great contract with one of my customers!!!!

That's why whenever I get gas, I always watched the gas guy to make sure he puts in the right octane (always premium).

Full service? What is that? If you pay for full service in CA, it would be close to $3.00 a gallon (I just noticed you are in CA!). Your lucky this attendent did not ding your car with the nozzle,

Many people mix different Octane at each fill up. When you get to half (no lower) a tank you could fill it with 87 or 89 and the next time you fill, use 92 or whatever premium is. There should be no ill effect.

Why? do they underestimate drivers' ability to pump their opwn gas? It aint THAT hard...

One tank of 87 wont hurt the car any. It just wont perform quite as well, but a few tank later it will all be out of the system anyways. the ECU ajusts for such incidents. Congrats on the contract!

:-) Calm down over there! It's not like your car is ruined now and you have to return it for a new one. :-)

That is funny, worried about REGULAR 87 GAS in your car.

That is strange..there is almost no full service here in texas. I once pumped a full service myself assuming that ALL gas places was self served...motha fuka charged me full service too...even though he didn't do shit. Fux full service...pump your own gas you lazy bum.

You can say that again. Here, in NJ, there is no self-serve. It's full serve or nothing, so I always make it a point to watch the attendant to make sure the correct grade is pumped in. And sometimes, you even have to check to make sure the gas hoses are not twisted (e.g., 89 octane hose in the 93 premium hook), to be sure... DA

You won't have any problems with your car.
I did that myself a year ago with my TL.
The premium pump was in in the center & I used Mobile for the first time in awhile.
I thought Special was the high octane it was the mid grade.I filled the car up from E the feul light had been on for awhile. I notice loss of power going up steep hills on the road. The car ran normal at all other times.
I burned most of it out doing city driving then I refilled with $$$ gas.

I don't think our cars require Premium, do they? I always use Premium in every car I've ever owned, but I do it cuz it's a mental thing I guess.

What are some of the effects if someone constantly put 87 in the TL?

I now have my TL-S for three days. I've just gone to the Texaco to fill up the tank with 91 octane gas (it was at the 1/3 mark), and I noticed a significant boost in power right away. I wonder if the dealer really put Premium gas in my tank when I drove it off the lot...

Just make sure you put premium in next time and it should be ok.
You gotta watch these guys in jersey. The other day the guy almost put my gas cap on my trunk lid! I say almost because i was watching him to make sure he didnt and i stopped him before he did! lol.

Cool

You guys will hate me for this, but...

I had a 99 TL Nav (a 2 year lease) before I bought my TL-S, and the ENTIRE time I owned it, all I used was 87 Octane!!!! No kidding. I drive a lot of miles (50,000 in the 2 years) and since the car was a lease, I did not care about the long term affects.

You know what? That car ran great, and never lagged or sputtered or anything. It responded well and I never had a problem.

Now, on my TL-S, I ALWAYS use 93 Octane. Why?
Because this one is MINE!

So, at any rate, I would not worry about one tank of 87, it is no big deal. Really.
