iddle speed problems - need opinions

Ok.. I hate Monday morning drives to work but today was even worst..

my 2000 TL decided to give me a scare.. On my first stop light I noticed
that the car did not feel right in idle.. I decided to shift to neutral (N)
and noticed that the car's RPMs started to shift between 1,000-2,000 rpms.

When it was the turn to go I shifted the car to D5 and felt hard shift into 1st
gear. Not nice. Then I entered the express way for the remainder of my trip
to work.

Here is what I noticed.. While driving in D5 I never felt the car shifting to
overdrive (5th). When cruising at 70mph the car felt like missing a gear
and RPMS where stuck at 2000 rpms. After a 20-minute drive it was time
to get out of the express way and when I got to my first stop light the
car felt ok again.. When I arrived to the parking lot I shifted to neutral
and the car showed aroun 600 rpms (normal)

What is going wrong? How much is it going to cost me to fix this? I am dead
broke right now!!

A little more info on the car..
2000 TL with 79,500 miles
1 tranny replaced about 15,000 miles ago.
No accidents, all maintenance done and synthetic oil since new.

all feedback welcome and appreciated

thanks
Carlos

Ok.. I searched a little bit better the forums and I believe what could be wrong is the
IAC valve ?? The car was sitting all weekend in my driveway as I used my wife's car
since last Friday..

Does anyone knows how much this part cost? Where can I get it online?

thanks

Could be the IAC valve. Watch it for a week or so. I had a similar problem and finally got the dealer to replace under warrenty (less than 30,000 miles). So I do not know what the part costs, but it took less than an hour to replace. Also the tech mentioned that he has seen this in FL cars as the valve sticks do to the weather conditions and salt air in Florida. I do not know if he was BS'ing or what since I am in CA.

Good luck on it, as mine took about 2 months to resolve.
