I have an AEM, which came with a big hose and a small hose (replacements). I'm not sure what Comptech Icebox comes with, but I'm going to assume the same.

If you look at the metal pipes, you will notice that it's actually two pipes welded together. One of them will be replaced with a big hose that came with the intake. You must lift the engine cover and locate where it hooks up to. Take the clamp off and replace with the Comptech-supplied big replacement hose. The metal pipes will be left in the engine bay, however, because you are you still using the other metal pipe.

The smaller replacement hose will hook up to the back of the engine. Just trace the stock hose and replace it.

Hope that helped.

P.S. I hate the metal pipes, so I plan to get a hose from Home Depot or something and replacing the other metal pipe with it, so I can be completely rid of the metal pipes.

Good luck.

Yup, same as Pure Adrenaline said. You have to take off the engine cover and trace the two hoses. The are clamped to anoter metal hoses on each end. I reused the stock clamps and bought another clams for the intake side.

Cheers !!!

After installing the icebox, are you able to note any sound differences in all RPMs? I too put in an Icebox recently and I'm trying to figure out if the sound is the Icebox or my balding tires. Please let me know. It's like this dull humming or buzzing sound. Thanks!

Before the icebox i had the AEM. i just installed my icebox 10 min ago. i took it for a test drive. it sounds just like STOCK. the noises you hear are easy to fix i think.

The buzzing or humming sound can be that your BOX where the filter goes is not tightly closed and some air might be escaping. also check ur resonator box and the connections. i think thats your problem.

anyone else know what might be his problem????

One thing to check for about a week after your install is to make sure that the scoop that goes on the bottom of the icebox stays on. Mine fell off twice before I finally figured out a fix for it. To fix it in the end I had to trim the slits on the side of my scoop's connection to the airbox to get it to tighten well enough not to fall off.

To check it, simply look through that slit in the lower bumper (where the indentation is).

If your scoop falls off into the fender well, you will notice some increased noise and actually be able to feel more vibration in the dead pedal on the left. Vandy, that may be what's happened to your icebox after installation.

The problem with my scoop was that as you tightened the clamp, the ends of the side slits touched each other.

After that, you could crank as tight as you wanted to - it wasn't going to hold any tighter. I had to get a razor blade to shave some of the plastic out of the slits so that they could compress further. Once I did that, the scoop stayed on.

Did you check yours? Is it still on?

Pleas forgive my ignorance in this area, but I did not install my first CAI, and have no knowledge of what was removed to put it in.

The only work I did was to replace my CAI with the Icebox. 80% of the work was already done. Which stock metal piece are you talking about? I have nothing metal related to my Icebox that gets hot that I know of.

-EDIT-

Just saw your response. The little pipe contains coolant. It will get hot - no worries.

I routed mine up the back side (behind the throttle body) so you really don't see it at all.

dont worry, i am more of a newbie

yes but i was afraid it might burn the rubber it touches.
i never did use the Long thing hose comptech supplied only the wider one. i think i can replace that metal peice with the thinner hose but i am not sure it might fit. i might try it.

Yeah - go ahead and replace it - it's only carrying coolant. It comes from an outgoing coolant pipe coming from the top of the engine to the TCS/VSA throttle body.

I didn't replace it because my friend said it's not really necessary. Plus you might leak coolant all over the engine bay and in the garage. That stuff is flammable I believe so you absolutely have to clean it up if you do make a mess. Thanks for all the Icebox humming suggestions, I will go look at it right now.

Mine was replaced with the hose that came with my injen CAI. I didn't feel the need to put the comptech one on there instead. The original hose had to be trimmed down in length quite a bit. The diameter was fine. I believe the instructions want you to wrap the hose around the front of the intake. It looks horrible like that, so that's why I ran the straight shot up behind the throttle body.

What's the worst that can happen - you try the hose and it doesn't fit. You can put the old one on again no problem.

BTW - coolant is not flamable at all. It is - however - bad for paint. If you get it on paint you need to clean it off or it might leave a mark.

I had an Injen - and now an Icebox. You can't feel any noticeable difference. The sound (or lack of sound) is the biggest difference.

If anything, you might be tempted to feel like it's a little slower, but only due to the lack of the engine roar.

damn, my sound is still there. the buzzing drone is driving me crazy. Here's a post I made which everyone ignored so far. Any suggestions would be helpful:

I'm having this buzzing / humming sound in my 2002 TLS for a few weeks now. I don't exactly remember, but I think the sound is getting worse over time. I believe it was there before I put the Icebox in. Everything is installed correctly as far as the Icebox goes. I'm nearing 30,000 miles on my factory Michelins which all have 6/32nds tread left on them (new = 9/32 I think). I recently even got them rotated and balanced. The sound does not change when I shift gears, it just changes when I increase speed. Sound is not present below 35 MPH and above 55 MPH. Everywhere inbetween, it increases slowly throughout. What could be the problem? I just wanted to know what to expect before taking it to Acura sometime next week. Thanks for the help!

If the sound varies directly witht the vehicle speed, then it could not be the intake or engine. The only possibilities I could think of are transmission (although they are not known to make noises as they go out) or other driveline components, like CV joints, brakes, or tires (even though you had them looked at). It could even be a wheel bearing.

i choose the comptech cuz it was easy to change the filter and i didnt have to worry about sucking up water.

comparison. they both perform the same i think. aem is loud, comptech is stock like.

Someone I know also suggested it could be a wheel bearing. Would that be covered under warranty? Also, I put the car in neutral while going 50 mph and coasted to 20mph and the sound is still there so it's definitely not the tranny. Thanks for the help people.

I had a bad wheel bearing in one of my former cars that made a whine as well.

That should be covered by the "bumper to bumber" part of the warning. It wouldn't be covered under powertrain.

Good luck.

Got my Icebox installed

I'm also a newbie but I got the kit installed in about 2 hours myself. I had concerns over the smaller hose as well until I realized that the original hose was simply passing through the original airbox and back into the engine block. The small hose from Comptech is meant to reconnect that path although they could have done a better job of describing that in their instructions. Now, I get a nice throaty sound when I punch it but otherwise it sounds stock just cruising down the interestate. This is my first serious mod on a car and it sounds and performs great. I'm wondering what I can do next for around the same cost without my wife screaming at me for spending money on a car hehe.. Thanks for everyones help in this post!
