Unhappy i spun out.......

well this past saturday i was coming back from the beach, and as the title says i spun out, i was doing about 70mph heading home....in the rain like the smart person i am. Just before the expressway splits into two lanes going north, and two lanes going south, the car starts sliping all four tires, then i starting going sideways.....driver's side....towards the center divide of the two different ramps, i was able to turn the car back around, but the then i spun completely around in the other direction, and now i'm facing oncoming traffic, and going backwards towards the guardrail, i was looking at the damn thing hoping to just stop short of it, but then i slam into it, and the front hit the rail as well, then after of the scariest 5 secsonds of my life, i almost get hit by oncoming cars, all in all i'm just glad i didn't die or hit the damn center divide, or by an oncoming car. and when i go to leave my car wouldn't start, finally get it started and drive off.....

my car came out of it with a messed passenger quarter panel, rear bumper, passenger side tail light, my trunk doesn't open, and the front fender in bad shape, front bumper, headlight, i bent the lip on my rear rim, but its holding air, curbed abour half the damn thing, and crubed about 6in on the front rim....i just got a quote today, for 2,700 for paint and labor, and about 2,000 in parts...(can't be sure til the trunk is opened)...

Scary stuff man. Glad you came out ok. I've seen this happen once on the freeway during ran -- after witnessing it I'm very cautious (especially in the TL...a little less in the subaru ).

Good thing you came out alive. You were being watched that day by something greater than we can all ever imagine.

Be happy that it's only 5 grand in damages. Some people end up totaling their cars from an accident like that. You'll be back in the game soon, unless you just want to get another vehicle. Keep it Acura!

definately scary. i do about 60-70 on the freeway in the rain. i feel safer in the acura cause it has performance tires and VSA. guess its not really bullet-proof

The same thing happened to me on the onramp to go south from okeechobee on the turnpike.....vsa didn't help me at all. The car spun out and 1 of my tires went into the dirt. My car shut off and I was like wtf...started it up and drove home really cautious. Good thing nothing got messed up. Sorry to hear what happened to you. another AM tl almost totalled.

Really glad you're ok. It could have been a lot worse.

the tl-p doesn't have VSA to my knowledge, only the type-s does.
also what tires do you have? Are they performance oriented or the OEM ones? also thread wear.

the rear were just about bald, and the front had enough thread, i had driven at about 80-85 the night before in the same conditions and nothing, but the road on that expressway must not get rid of water as well as the other expressway.....i put my stocks back on yesterday, they had about two month old tires on em when i got the rims

Sorry bro. If your tires are bald, no amount of sophisticated electronics system can save your car from spinning because the tires have no traction with the wet road. Please drive super slow, or get yourself some decent treaded tires.

ALWAYS put the tire with more tread on the rear, RWD, FWD or AWD. glad you walked away no problems.

i have em on now....i had bought a set of tires for my stocks, and about two months later i got the rims so my tires are brand new, the thing i was waiting till after the meet on the 10th to change out my rims for my stocks, but i guess i waited too long.....

Most drivers can correct themselves if the fronts lose traction (ie understeer ... most of the time). When the back end goes ... that's where a more experienced driver can correct things (ie FWD -- hit the gas ... goes against conventional wisdom so that's why most spin out or worse ...)

Glad you are OK ... but even if you had a good set of tires, there's always a chance of hydroplaning since you can't see how deep the water is on the roads sometimes. Keep the speed down when the weather isn't agreeable to go fast.

Glad you're okay bro. and oh yeah, VSA does work. It was raining in san jose a few weeks ago and i was driving back up to davis for school. I have a habit of driving 70-75 in the rain.. maybe because my prelude back in the day handled pretty well in the rain, but i felt the slippage on my wheels when it hits puddles, and it kinda just offsetted the spin on my front wheels. I drove 60 the rest of the way home. good luck with your car

simple physics and common logic escapes some people on this board lol. no offence to any1 btw, but how wud awd make this any better? he wasn't even on the gas, most likely on the breaks too...awd is irrelevant.

i sort of see the logic in having the better tires at the rear, so that a crappy driver wudn't loose the back that easy and spin, but then again on a fwd car no matter what you do the fronts will wear out way faster so to balance that you need to swap them eventually to get even wear....the answer to not spinning out is learning how to drive and not relying on tires and vsa to save you, because sometimes peoples's stupidity goes beyond what any onboard system can do (even though vsa was not present in this case)

vsa is a very good system, i have tried it and it works very nicely...but i turn it off everytime because i love to slide the car around in rain, and sometimes dry too...so that system is limiting me in that because it's trying to correct my slide....and i wanna correct it myself.

the system works so well infact that it is very hard to throw the car in a slide with it on, it just stops the car on the spot....but that's no fun. lol

My experience with VSA is that it only functions when the car is beginning to understeer or oversteer. I t won't do a thing when the car is doing a neutral 4-wheel drift, because I guess if all 4 tires have lost traction the VSA has got nothing to correct.
