I Seafoamed... Today...

Although I just bought my TL, it has 75,000 km... I decided to seafoam that bad boy, so I sucked a full can through a vacuum line... wow... amazingly enough their wasn't that much carbon build up, the person must have taken good care of the car.... now I just have to change my oil...

After working in the automotive industry for 5 years now, seafoams rep is just amazing, if you haven't tryed it.... try it... trust me.... you car would LOVE you forever....

Peace Out Ladies

A vac line-
did you happen to read the DIY on seafoam- we recently found the large vac nipple port at the throttle body to be extremely effective- and distributes seafoam to ALL the cylinders.
The vac line that goes to the rear of intake manifold- only feeds 3 cylinders- and we were all using it for years! Now the car really runs good.
Seafoam rules!!!

there is a recent- like few week old MAJOR change to the procedure, so I wanted to make sure you were aware of it. We no longer use the hose on the driver side of the fenderwell.
Just a note to all- nothing personal

If you just put it in the gas tank. Do you still need an oil change?

no- oil change is after you use seafoam in the crankcase-
that big black cap on the engine that says 5W30 oil on it

according to its maker, seafoam is a combination of hi detergent oils, not a pure solvent like other cheapo cleaners. That allows its use in all the parts of the engine.

Seafoamed the TL yesterday too

But I didn't see the DIY so I used a vac line on the bottom of the EGR, the car had 144K on it, pulled ~210 on all cylinders in the compression check, Ran the seafoam 1/2 cup through the small vac line and when we fired it up...it smoked like hell for around 5 minutes (reving upwards of 5.5K) Then it was gone, smoke free. The car starts and runs flawlessly, have new NGK Iridiums in it, with a new K&N air filter.

Seafoam RULES! Used it in my BMW, my other sons probe, and now my middle sons TL!

We seafoamed the crankcase before we put in the Royal Purple.

Great stuff!

Thumbs down

No way I'd put that crap in my engine....all that smoke blowing out the exhaust scares the shit outta me. It can't be good for the cat converter.

btw...Royal Purple is a joke!!! It's been reviewed by several automotive journals and found to be pure hype.

Seafoam Q

We run the seafoam 1X per year. In both the crankcase and combustion chamber.

GL

Pour 2/3 in the engine oil, run at idle with no load on the engine for about 15 mins, drain and put in New oil. Rin the other 1/3 of the can in the combustion chambers.

If you watch TV and see the Shell ad with the valves at 5000 miles and the crud on them- that is real - imagine how it effects the engine- the piston tops get like that too.
Poor combustion - inefficent burning of fuel etc
Seafoam will not hurt the engine on a TL- the smoke is some dissolved crud and the seafoam itself burning off.
Do not rev in the driveway- take it for a hot foot drive as directed in the DIY
If you are unsure you used a direct feed vac port- get another can and do it again at the TB port. Gas is about to go insanely high, so all I can do to keep the TL at peak efficieny I will.
A can in the tank at low fuel level is important to get the injectors spraying nice again too.
see the DIY

dnd - no need to change the recent plugs as long as you do the hot foot drive afterwards.
Its only an issue of loading/fouling the plugs if they are 100k, and you only idle it after the seafoam, then a problem may develope...but you are fine
grab a can today- the differace is noticable afterwards
Need to make a correct diy and close all these others

Maybe the smoke is partially the crud burning off...but most is from the Seafoam itself..and it scares the shit outta me. I'm glad you guys like it..but for my cars...I'll stick with Shell Gasoline or FP-60 to keep my engine clean. Smoke scares me...it's not normal for engines to spew smoke..and bad for the environment too!!

the higher amount of hydrocarbons and other emissions from incomplete combustion are far worse than that which comes from seafoam use.
Using Tier1 brands of gas is only the start to a clean good runnign engine

If you dont want to use a product on your car thats fine- but to say its bad and discourage others is just your wild speculation of whats happening

jetjock- I m certain the clouds of unburned fuel coming off the typical P&W whatever,
are doing far more damage to the environment.
As a pilot, I know piston engine planes are dropping lead from their gas out the exhaust pipe and onto the public at large
