I need your guys info on my next purchase 02cl-s

Hey guys im new to the forum, i dont even own a type-S yet but im pretty close to making my decision. I own a 95 Impala SS, and im up to date on the forums out there but i thought it would be wise to sign up on this one to get some info. You know when i make this purchase I will be active here... hopefully not complaining.

Im looking to spend 21k on a 02 CL OR TL TYPE S w/ about 30-40k miles on it in the Chicago, IL area. I was reading around and it looks like some of you guys have had multi transmissions replaced in a short time period?? are there other common problems with the cars? I know all cars have there share of problem ( My previous was a 93 Cobra ) but im looking for something that i can call reliable w/ a nice factory warranty 7yr-100k sounds good on the engine/trans.... any problems w/ electrical equip? If theres a year better then the other, or anything I should look for when im test dirving the car PLLLLLLLLLLLLEASE let me know! I will check the forum frequently in the next week or so. Im looking for a smooth, powerful, and very comfortable car. I've dumped over 10k+ into the Impala in "toys" i can see myself doing the same if this car is what it appears to be. I have yet to drive one ;X

Just go in

and ask point blank - if you can buy from an acura dealer or if going private party ask them as well.

Get the vin# and do a car fax check and if you get the vin# call Acura Customer Service and ask them as well.

check out Muller's Woodfield Acura - they have an 02 CL Type S certified
33K miles advertised at 22K (so you would have no problems getting then down to 21 or even 20500 ) and includes the 7 year 100K engine and transmission warranty !

bragging

heh - well mine is an new 03 and aside from my dealer issues - (the car is bone stock) it's a fantastic car...I had an 02 maxima before this, the difference is night and day..the car just feels like it costs a lot more than it does..ride, smoothness just the over all feeling..hard to describe..but it's schweet.

couple other crazy questions:

1. Im really into car audio and have about $7,000 in the impala I will be taking it all out how am I on getting the head unit replaced w/ a 1.5 din? I also have a few 6.5 component sets, along w/ a couple amps and 3 12 JL's ill have installed nicely. How will the alt hold up to 2000watts if i have 2 huge caps and a optima yellow top? Im use to the 140amp alt on the SS...

Make sure that the car that you are buying is clean, by that I mean since you know about the tranny problems, make sure that you have all the paperwork about a previous change of transmission and all other major changes. Other than that our cars are very good and yes ALL cars have different issues but all in all, they are very good cars.
Welcome to the club future member.

That information the Acura dealer should be able to give me correct? Should I stare away from a car that has had a tranny replaced previously compared to a car that hasnt? I dont know how bad this problem is but if I would be better off knowing the tranny was replaced vrs. waiting any day for the tranny to go out again.... ?

Thanks for the info fellas... I have nothing better to do today at work then research this car I cant wait to drive it tonight, i wish i could find one in stick in IL area no luck though

I don't think

you need to stay away from one that had the tranny replaced - from all I have read it was not acutally the tranny but a bearing or joint ?(someone correct me if I am wrong) - that was inadequate.

In fact I would lean more towards one that did since the issue was complete loss of power!

23995 for a 02 w/ 24k miles silver anyone know of any places in the chicago area w/ good deals? Im also diggin the factory warranty.

The only other car im taking into consideration is the Cadi STS im going to test drive one tomorrow.
