I know something you don't know

SlyTls sold me his 4 slightly used rotors from his type s, because my TL-P rotors were mega warped. When we compared all the rotors, the front type s' and the rears were the same size in diameter and width as the TL-P. Now this leads me to believe that acura is lying about the bigger brakes on the TL-S, maybe the calipers are different, but the rotors are the same despite what acura says.

i dont think acura said there was any difference in brake rotor diameter but the abs and brake system is different, the tlp is only a 4 channel system while the tl type s is a 6 channel

I believe that is correct about the 3 vs 4 channel. I also knw for fact that the TCS does not affect the brakes on the TLP where as on the TL S the VSA does work with the brakes. To tell the truth though Id rather they not affect the brakes

everybody at the shop was shocked because they know that one of acura's selling points was advertising bigger brakes on the type S

I compared the TL-P and TL-S on acura's website and they don't give specifics about the brakes, only the fact they are both disc brakes...thats it, but i found another interesting nugget of information....

The TL-S weighs in almost 100 lbs more than the TL-P.

DIMENSIONS AND CAPACITIES
Curb Weight, AT
2003 Acura 3.2 TL Type-S : 3558
2003 Acura 3.2 TL Sedan : 3492

Actually, this is only partly correct. The ABS on the TL-S works as a 3-channel system under normal driving conditions (rear wheels modulate together regardless of slip/lockup). Only when the VSA detects impending trouble and activates does the rear channel split to operate both wheels independently. So I guess you'd call it 3.5-channel...

I could have told you that.

It pretty much means that when ABS is activated wich works in conjuction with VSA on type S. When you applied the brakes and the wheels lock up, ABS is activated instead of activating all 4 wheels as in would on a one channel system(don't know if exsits) a 3 channel system would individually activate each from wheel left or right when either lock up or the 2 rear wheels on the back if either one locks up. The only difference on the 4 channel is that the reat wheels are also control individually. Makes sense 4 cahnnel 4 wheels. The only reason the type S has 4 channels is because of the VSA needs control of each individual wheel to work. The VSA uses the ABS system to stop or control the brake on the required wheel.
