I knew the tires are bad, but...
WTF!!!
I was whippin the car around yesterday(hadn't really driven the car hard in about a month) and my tires were screamin like a
b!tch. It was pretty cold(around 45degrees) so I guess the tires were a little harder but this was rediculous. From a dead stop I floored it and the tires spun for like a sec, then a took this 45deg turn nothin major and they scream some more, top to it of it get to this intersection doin about 55 and hit brakes(did not slam the brakes, but I'd say it was moderately heavy braking) and the tires screach again and ABS comes on.
Good lord those things have no grip what so ever.
I knew they were bad but this sux.
I've got to make sure my first mod is set of some high perf touring tires.(I'd get some high perf tires but I still need some rain/snow traction)
They should at least give me some better performance while not comprimising too much on all weather.

I've experienced the same thing. My tires would squeal when I make a high-speed turn around highway on-ramps when the rest of the car is hardly losing control.
Make sure you inflate your tires properly (32 PSI at that day's temperature). I overinflate my tires by about 0.5 PSI and it gives it a nice responsive feeling.

I am going to the tire manufacture psi rating!!! Less than an hour ago a friend of mine with a Porsche and I were running between 120-130 and in any type of curve the S-Type felt like it was running toward the edge of the rim. I have kept my air pressure to what Acura reccomends. NO MORE... I am tired of the tires under inflated looking azz and I have always thought they require more air to perform correctly. Probably will ride a little rougher but those tires really sucked when being pushed... Has anyone upgraded tires on stock wheels? If so, what did you use and what are the results?

my test drive
I test drove a TL-S and took it pretty fast (about 40mph) around a curve with the suggested speed limit of 25mph (they really mean it on that curve). I felt the TL-S' tires hop a little.
I took the 2002 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE on the same curve at the same speed and it just went through the curve as if on rails.

I must have gotten a special set of MXM4's, because I don't have any of these issues. Maybe it's the warmer weather here in FL?
Overinflating the tires will reduce heat buildup within the tire during high speed driving, but in many cases, it actually REDUCES traction. Something to think about.
These cars weren't really designed for the way that many seem to be driving them. 3500lbs of car, sitting on 215s. What do you expect? My Vette weighs 200lbs less, and runs 275s all around. You want that sort of handling- get the S2K (or a Vette ).

I made this post a few days ago, they do SUX! So far, no one had anything bad to say about the yokohama AVS Db tires. Have themy on my vette. Great traction and hadling, and they even work when its wet out! To huge channels for water, etc...
I want to get new tires, but not sure if I should go with rims also or the stock ones. I bet with tires alone, we will improve your ET due to off the line response you will get when its cool out

On my old 2000 TL the tires started off a little squeaky but towards the last year the tires would just squeal everywhere. They were awful. Since i've gotten my new TL-S I have done everything in my power NOT to make them squeak and they dont squeak at all. And trust me i'm pushing the car . I just push it just below squeak limit. Before I was doing this, they started squeaking and becoming worse (same speed, same corner, more squeak). What happens is when you start making them squeak it is usually causing uneven wear and then the problem becomes increasingly worse and you end up with very squeaky tires. So you should do your best not to make them squeak and you should have less problems with it. Little off topic, but do tires get more traction in the cold, in the hot and humid, or in the hot and dry?

The stock tires are very sensitive to the SURFACE that they are on.
I got rid of them with the first month. They would work fine on open face pavement -- that stuff that looks like old gray pavement with the feel of sandpaper.
On paint strips and smooth concrete they would scream like piggies -- it was embarrassing to take off at an intersection with wide paint strips.
On new blacktop, the tires would push out and feel like the car was going to keep going straight.
--Tires changed with no other mods --
Car with 235/45 Toyos made NO noise, stops hard enough to scare the $hit out of anyone; cornering, acceleration, and stopping on ALL surfaces is quiet with incredible grip. Even the car's balance was changed to neutral from plow city...
There are just some surfaces that the stock MXM4s really suck on -- you will know them when you find them.
Moral of the story -- if have the $$$ -- get winter tires for snow and ice, and some killer MAX Performance tires for the other three seasons -- it makes for a different car.

EricL: Did you put on your Toyos 235/45's on the stock rims? I'm thinking of buying better tires when my MXM's wear out (in about 3 years I guess)... just keeping an eye out for good performing tires. I guess I'm going to do the summer/winter setup. Maybe I'll keep my MXM's for winter driving and get a better setup for summer.

One of the things I noticed too is that the OEM rims are way too thin for high-performance tires. Has anyone successfully used 8" rims with the TLS? A set of 17x8 or 18x8 rims would open up a much larger selection of tires to choose from.

Check out the Toyos T1S Proxies -- I'm hooked...
Or call Tire Rack -- if you have the money get the Max performance tires like the S-03, S-02PP, etc
I'm buying some Yoko AV-DBs for my wife's car --> '95 Altima with 205/50VR-15 tires. I would have bought Toyo T1S proxies, but they don't make them in that size.
I am now running 17x8" +48 SSRs -- I bought them for the lighter weight.

Stock tires are too thin! Someone here shared an excel spreadsheet with me that has lost and losts of wheels 16 to 18" I think, that are 22Lbs or lighter. Good tool to narrow down your search to "rims" that will add perfromance also I will post it soon.
