I Just Raced A Tl-s With My Acura Legend!

Man, the TL-S is so fast! I mean, I have to floor it all the way to catch up! However, I still catched up with just 210hp under my hood. I am quite sure that we both floor it. I wasn't racing him, but I was chasing him. 80mph in 30mph zone! It was so dangerous because it was a down hill with tons of corners. The TL-S was black and my Legend was white, so I think people would think "wow, 2 Acuras, one black one white....."

It was very hard to describe how fast it was. But I think I still did a good job chasing it. I didn't loose it, but I was trying really hard.

If you were the guy in that black TL-S, will you think that me, in the white 95 Legend LS, is a big looser trying to chase bratty younger brother???

I have a 94 Legend and there is no way it could keep up w/ my TL-S. Granted it has 180000 miles on it and has never had its shocks replaced but still, no way. Even in its prime, I don't think that Legend did 0-60 in much better than 8 seconds whereas the TL-S is 6.2. However, right now the Legend could kick the s*** out of my TL-S which is in the shop for a new transmission after only 2 months and 9500 miles. The quality of those old Legends is definitely better.

Black and White? Can't we all get along (even if just Acuras)? LOL!

Hey where are you from?

If that black TL-S driver was Korean and kind of chubby, that was me! Ever since I've picked up my car, people in Legends, S2000s, and everything else just approach me and wanna race!

Well, it was a chubby Asian. But I don't think it was you because you live in Colorado! I live in Canada Coquitlam.

If that person really was you, I would want to race some day at night because I just got super blue lights for my Legend.

BTW, it was a typo, my Legend has 230hp and a 6 speed. It does 0-60 in 6.3sec according to C/D in jun 94.

But still, the TL-S was so fast.

I currently have Koni and Eibach on the Legend with a set of fresh high performance tires. I have carbon fiber brake pads and slotted discs.

I just read his second post and he states he has the 230 HP version Legend with a 6-Speed manual. Those cars indeed was tested at 6.3 0-60, and 14.9 1/4 mile. That is more then enough to keep up with a Type-S. I'm not saying it will beat it, but it will definately be a drivers race, as the two cars performance are very close on paper. By the way, the auto version of his Legend was tested at 7.2 0-60, and 15.6 1/4 mile, so it is quite a bit better then 8 second.

I suspect you have/had a 94 Sedan, the one with the 200HP engine. Even then, those cars were also tested with a best time of 7.8 0-60 (and as high as 8.1).

But all that aside, it sounded like he was saying the Type-S was a fast car, and giving credit. The TL-S is a nice car, and I would pick that car over the CL-S anyday.

I wasn't flaming or anything. Just couldn't believe a Legend could keep up. But a GS w/ 230 and a 6 sp, well that's a different story. I've always wanted one of those but very hard to come by.

0-60 in 8 sec is not slow.

For instance that is what the 1st gen Tl does and countless other cars, not slow, just not exceptional.

0-60 in 10 sec is slow....

I like the Legend and it doesn't really seem slow but I thought I remembered 0-60 times in the high 7 low 8 second range. Which I guess really is pretty quick. It'll still get up an go but w/ 180000 miles on it, it's probably lost a little of its pep. I'd love to find Legend GS w/ low miles -- really a great looking car that was kind of ahead of its time w/ a 6 sp tranny.

I just got back from Battle of the Imports.....

Up in Denver and my car ran 0-60 in 6.7 and 1/4 at 15.3 at 91 mph ! Just one question? Does elevation effect your cars performance that much?

Wink

Hey, those Legends were fast! I had the original Legend Coupe, a 1987 5spd that was a very fast car. I know it had less than 180 hp but it really moved!

I drove a new 89 Legend Coupe w/ 5sp around for a weekend once and that thing could fly. I went to see some friends at another school and raced this chick in a Maserati Bi-turbo Convertible. I wasn't really racing, just wanted a closer look at the girl and the car but before I knew it, we were just cruising down the hwy at 120. For only 160 hp, that thing sure could move.

And you wouldn't believe that a Legend could chase a TL-S.....

do you guys think the TLS which I chased thinks my Legend is a POS Acura?

No problem at all. I didn't think you were flaming at all, and didn't mean to sound like I was saying so either I too understand a TYPE I would not be able to real in a TL-S, but it still would hang around close enough to suprise an S driver. Just don't get caught in 5th gear . Just kidding. I found that the 5th gear on the S is like my 6th gear on my Legend, and the 4th gear on the S is like my 5th gear. That is just 1 reason why the TYPE II 6-Speed can hand with the CL-S, and TL-S. The 6-Speed puts down low to mid 190 HP to the wheels.

Anyway, I give much respect the TL-S, and would consider one, and a new RL if I needed a 4 door. I like Coupes, and the CL-S is just not cutting it for me. IMHO, then sould do away with the CL, and add a RL Coupe Or at least offer an RL Coupe.

Feeling fast and actually being fast are two different things. My 90 Integra felt fast w/ only 130 hp. But, as the years have gone by and I've moved up the Acura food chain, that feeling changes. My TL-S is now in the shop and I got a 99 Integra as a loaner. I think that car has 142 hp (or so) so it should be faster or at least as fast as my 90 was. But man does it feel slow. As for the 5sp Legend w/ 160 -- that probably was a fairly quick car and the manual tranny probably helped to enhance the fast feeling. But I bet if I drove it now, back to back w/ my TL-S, it wouldn't feel so fast.

And no, I wouldn't think a Legend GS is a POS Acura. I'd like to race one myself to see how close it would be.

I traded a '94 Legend Coupe for my 2001 TL. The legend was great, but not nearly as refined as the TL. Put some better tires on the TL and it will was the Legend in a canyon race. There are things I miss about my Legend, but it was dated looking and kind of weak in the handling.
