I have warped rotors, i need ideas
Hey all i did a search and nothing really answered my question.
I have 70k and I think my brakes are warped. when im above 50mph and i brake i get a violent shake in the steering wheel.
Now im assuming this are my front rotors since i get shake in the steering wheel.
I dont need anything fancy or high performance i just want something to last. Should i go to an acura dealer and get stock ones or go to a shop and get other rotors.
what am i looking at in terms of price for 2 new front rotors and labor? from a dealer or a shop??

take it to a mechanics shop. they usually can order you OEM ones, or get you a cheap brand aftermarket blanks. the no brand name rotors wont stop you as great as the OEM ones, but they do last for a while, and better than having warped rotors.. it'll probably run you from 70-120 for the rotors and labor will be anywhere from 50-100. so at most you'll just spend about let's say 250. labor and front rotors. but that's at the extreme most. on my first car, my total was 190 at my local shop.. that was for both front rotors, pads, and labor. all no-name-brands. but it worked! they worked til the car died (engine failure). which was around 170K miles.. and i got it changed around 90K. haha

honda/acura, same thing... call get a quote from acura to check it out or most brake shops will do free estimates... got front brake pads and rotors retrued for $150- with the free estimate. Decent pads as i understand...

I have this issue as well and I did notice that it is indicated under Edmund's service bulletin as an outstanding/common problem.
It as not been considered for recall but there is a chance that Acura is servicing this issue if your car is still under warranty (wish I had ).
Anybody have recommendations for aftermarket rotors though? Brembo, Comptech?

All parts purchased from an Acura Dealer and I called around for fluxuating prices and found none on parts, possibly on labour but none on the parts price.
OEM pads from acura $70CAD (all four)
OEM Rotors from Acura approx 70-$100CAD (each)
Total for parts was somewhere above $500 with the taxes.. I did the install myself, and they haven't showed me a sign of trouble.

My EBC slotted/dimpled rotors were like $250 shipped. Hawk pads were about $90 shipped...I'm sure any brake joint would put them on for less than $75...
Do a search to find many reviews on the Brembo blanks that people love. I think they are $200 or less...Hawk, Porterfield, EBC pads are all pretty good and durable...

I'm assuming you get the steering wheel issue while braking moreso than just driving. If the latter, perhaps you have seriously out of balance or flat-spotted tires...
