i have a problem with clay bar
i just bought today at autozone "Turtle Wax Deep cleaner" I opened it and it looked like clay. it was a dark brown color so i thought it was clay. (Is it clay?)
Well anyway,
i start to smear this "clay" on my hood... up and down up and down ... i try to buff it off and guess what....
scratches XXXXXXXXX like MILLIONS!!!! from that stupid thing!! whatever it is..
so i had to use many many many layers of polymer wax... forgot name... and it looks a little better.. but in the reflection i can still see MANY MANY MANY scratches...
***Also it scratched my paint .... only one down to the metal***
someone help me.. please!!!
:edit:
it said on the title "removes scratches and stains" it gave me a million scratches! wth?

sorry to hear that.........clay bars are good, but you need to get a high quality one in order for it to work good. Turtle wax just doesn't cut it! Like Beason said, did you use a lubricant? If not, that's probably why your finish is messed up.......hope you don't have a dark colored car!
Did you actually "smear" the clay all over your hood? And then you used something else to buff it off??
Check out some places like this or this or this to find out how to use a clay bar properly.
I used a Mothers clay bar kit that I got for like 20 bucks from Walmart. It comes with lubricant.
Also, try some Meguiar's Scratch X or something similar to remove the small scratches. The big scratches are going to be a lot more work and may require touch up paint, etc.

I hope you didn't just use the clay bar without any other form of liquid cleaner, cause that will scratch the crap out of your car. First of all, did you wash your car first? Your suppose to wash and dry your car, then spray the solution if it came with it, and lightly apply the clay bar until you can "feel" the surface getting to be smooth. Do that one section at a time until your finish, then you have to wash the car again, dry it, then apply a coat of wax. Sine your have tons of scratches now, you should go and wash your car, get some wax like Klasse and buff it out.
will magic clay take those millions and millions of paintstroke micro scratches off my hood?
ArN2000TL: It was turtle wax heavy compound, the brown one
Squid boy: yes i did smear it and buffed it off with cloth
accordv6: yes no lube was used, my car is black as well
can i remove these scratches? to make it look like before?

I don't mean to be harsh, but you messed up big time. You did not use a clay bar...what you used was compound. You will these scratches everywhere you used it on your car. I would say to re-use the compound the correct way to remove those scratches, but from previous posts I would recommend bringing it to a professional at this point. A clay bar is exactly was it is....A CLAY BAR! compound is different from a clay bar.

OMG you have ruined your car!!! No no no really you just made a mistake it is just a car and it can be repaired for a price my friend you just made a expensive mistake. Take the car to a professional detailing shop and have them assest the problem and let us know what the fix is.

First off, I would use something like Meguaire's Scratch X and try to remove or hide some of the minor scratches and fill in some of the deeper scratch. Make sure you use a Made in USA 100% cotton towel. I didn't believe it at first, but then after feeling a american made towel and a Pakistan made towel, they felt very different even tho both claimed 100% cotton. Zaino users will know what I'm talking about. Anyways, after you use scratch X, you can use Zaino Z-5 to fill in the scratches even more and that's the best you can do without seeking professional help which could remove your clearcoat from that section. I use Mother's Gold Claybar, $14.99 at Kragen. After some experience, you'll get the feel of how the claybar cleans and how much lube to use exactly. Hope this helps.

clay magic is a quailty clay bar and works well. I don't think even a clay bar used without lube will cause the problem you are describing.
for when you do use a clay bar, I sugest the following:
wash and dry car (drying doesn't need to be perfect, but no large amounts of water)
cut the bar into two or more pieces and only use one at a time
stretch the portion of clay into a decent size
use the provided lube to lightly mist a section of the car - with light pressure move the clay bar back and forth in the direction of airflow over the car
when you feel the resistance decrease and the bar is just sliding over the paint, move onto another section
you can use a mf to wire off the lube and clay residue or just wait and get it when you wash the car. use a clean towel to wire off the excess junk
if you run out of lube you can use quick detialing solution of a mixture of soap and water
if you drop the clay bar, throw it away and get another piece
after every section, kneed the bar to expose a clean section of clay
if you want to get the scrathes out yourself, you'll need a PC or a really good arm to work some polish in by hand. If you've never done it before, take it to a pro, you can screw the paint even more if you "burn" it with the PC. a pro can help it getting to an almost new look. if you want perfection, get it repainted.
