I got a stink under my carpet!!!

sorry mods if you want this in the wash area...you can move...but anyway. I have been noticing this "smell" in my car for the past month or so - recently it has gotten pretty bad. I figgured out (by smelling) that is was coming from the carpet under the petal area. So I pulled the carpet back and there it was...a spot about 10 inches in diameter - it was light brown and it actually had a few bubbles...shit that was the worst damn smell I have ever experienced

So I cut out all the white under pad that had the "spot" on it and cleaned the rest of the area up real good. I have had the carpet pulled back for the past few days, but it still smells pretty bad - like a 100 year old wet dog. Anyway, I put alot of baking soda all around the area and on the rest of the white pad.

Is there anything I can put on it to really get rid of the smell??? I mean even the clean area around the spot smells because it has absorbed the funky smell. Or should I just let it air out for a while?

I have no idea where it came from either, I dont ever spill anything...It was right under where your drivers foot will sit. oh well I just wanted to see if anyone has any reall good odor neutralizer that they know of.

i think they make a febreze auto spray.. i would spray it down nice and then air it out.. keep the windows down with the spot exposed so that the fresh air gets to it..

Also try some carpet cleaner that'll raise the stuff to the surface for you to blotch off. Otherwise, pouring baking soda onto the spot works wonders - especially on stupid puke from even stupider drunk people I drive around.

get a shop vac and a bucket of soapy water... dump on the soapy water, scrub it a bit, and suck up the water, repeat, repeat, repeat. then switch to regualr water.. The main thing is you're going to have to dilute what ever "it" is, before you start to cover the smell.

ya thanks for all the replies...its really hard to describe. I mean we have all had a few odd smells in our cars before from spills, but this was really bad, who knows how long "it" was under the carpet growing!!! lol. Its starting to get better now, I have used lots of baking soda on the pad and on the metal and sucked it up a few times, now I put the carpet back with lots of baking soda on the metal - see if the soda can eat up the rest of the smell...only other issue is now the area where I cut out the pad is real thin and hard now, I guess I will go to a carpet store to get some pad that is similar thickness.

Someone had shiz on there shoes and it absorbed through the carpet. If not that, your car took a shit and came out the wrong way .

Either way, get soapy azz water and brush like mention above. if not, cut the section out and repatch.
