Hi all, this is my story, its 11.5@night, im coming back from a restaurant with some friends, and in the way i meet up with a Jetta who was swirvin' thru traffic and he sorta challenges me. I thought he was either a slow jetta or a 1.8T who is still slower than my '99. (keep reading)

The road is kinda wet, it rained slightly in the afternoon, we meet at a light and he revs his engine...AC and radio go off... light changes... and we slip a bit, i take off on the lead, my rubber catches up with the pavement, im 2 carlenghts infront...i hit 70mph and he's next to me?!?!?! Then, and all i see is him getting further away FAST!!!! by the time i hit 90, hes probably going 100+ 3carlenghs away... :lol2:

it turns out he's on the JETTA GLI...those things are fast OR he was supped up. There were 5 ppl in my car, with full tank and im stock performance. he had 1 passenger. We meet up at the light i give him thumbs up, and get home to write this...i gotta go back to my people thought...peace.

Anyone have stats for this car?

Hate to brake it to you but the jetta (if stock) could be at best 200 hp with the 2.8L engine.

But if that was the case, you having 5 people in your car and him having one is a major factor is the loss. Stock to stock I think you would win.
we are about 3400lbs I think?? they are 3179lbs So I don't know

im 156, 1 friend 180, 2 girls about 120each, and a bigger one dud at 210+... how is this slight weight differece slow me so much?

Yeah - your car empty is 3400 lbs. Adding the 5 people @ 786 lbs total, and you've increased the weight of the car 23% to 4186.

Yeah - that's a lot of weight to be carrying around. My car will lose two tenths in the 1/4 mile from just have one extra 130lb person in the car. 5 people???? I might as well not even try it!

ETXXZ let me let you in on a little secret... for those jettas u can get chips which boost horesepower like 30 horses and if he had one you would not be able to tell the difference and he would have certainly smoked you.... just my .02

Sounds like he's chipped and probably modded. My friends Jetta has about 240hp to the wheels right now. Can definitely smoke a stock TL-P and probably a TL-S too. Those little cars can surprise you sometimes! I'm surprised he didn't blow ahead of you sooner.

nah man, the start off was easy, getting into third gear is when he left be behind. Im thinking about getting this venom device that seems to have worked on my friends '99. Then ill go with the classics, i/h/p, no exhaust since i wanna be discrete.
THEN, ill have to find this kid again.

Hey hey,

I have a TL-P with a few mods

I raced 1.8T, it pulled out on me for about a car length from the start, by the 2nd gear we were at level, by the third he was smelling the smoke outta my pipes.

That jetta you raced was definitely modded (next time kick the ppl out yer car and race, lol)

Jettas are actually nice cars, especially with that turbo in low gears and the beautiful blue gauges.

But they are too small inside. My friend has one, everytime I sit in the passenger seat, I feel like im in a tight box

but the bottom line is TLs are the best. =]

Speaking about jettas. I have a little story to tell you guys. I was coming home yesterday when I noticed a white jetta with some guy driving it. He was all up my ass but the road was a one way. I was thinking about racing this prick when the road opens up but then out of nowhere I hear a blow-off valve. Turns out it was coming from the jetta. He did it a couple of times. I guess he wanted to get my attention and he did. I wanted him to follow me onto the highway but he didn't. I know he'll beat me but I wanted to find out by how much.

yup them jettas have some potential. stock their slow, modded the're something to fear, unless you are moded then dont worry...kik its a$$

I got my *** wooped with my best friends on the car, if only i knew it was moded i wouldn't have raced but chilled. The funny thing was some pickup truck started with us but he slid like a newby and got all our water and smoke all over his windshield.

Before I had my TL I had the same car that raced you, it was a 98 GLI. All I had was chip and exhaust and at the track I ran it twice the same day, both runs a 15.33! Your weight is what hurt you I am sure.

one rule of thumb each 100lbs adds one tenth of a second to your time. So calcualting from the amount of people in your car. You r car would be .5 second slower if it was jsut you. Anyone that raced before know that when racing even .1 second is the difference between 1/4 a body to 1/2 body length. But jetta's are nice. The only jetta I really like is the GTi. Gofind him again. You didnt get smoke. You jsut got beat.

Yeah with that many people we'll be lucky if we can win against a corolla or civic. Ya just dont race with that many people, cuz you would be at a huge disadvantage already. But hey... I bet you had fun, and thas all that matters!!

A good friend of mine has a ('01?) Jetta 1.8T with a few mods and it's a pretty quick car. It seems to have quite a bit of torque for a fairly small 4 cylinder. Ahhhh, the wonders of boost.
