Talking I broke the 140 mph barrier last night

This happened around 9 p.m. last night on Route 280 in West Orange. I was driving to my friend's house when I flew by this new Volvo like an S40 or S60 going about 110 mph. I noticed that he started speeding up and then he passed me. Aiight, he wants to play so I stepped on the gas. I caught up to him doing 120 mph and then he slowly pulled ahead of me. Above 120 mph the car takes a few seconds to start pulling. I slowly passed him and looked down at my speedometer and it was pass 140 mph. By then I was a car-length ahead of him. Then there were traffic and I lost him as I was weaving in and out of traffic. Thank god there were no cops around.

You were weaving in and out of traffic at close to 140mph!?!?!? You're lucky that you and a bunch of innocent people are still among the living.

At least Nate recognizes he was stupid...

Hey at least I wasn't intoxicated. About weaving in and out of traffic, there were only a few cars and they had a few car-lengths between them. Get real fellas, how can someone weave in and out of traffic at 140 mph. You cannot change lanes with cars close to each other going that fast. It is not about how fast you go but how much control of the car you have.

Oh come on... 140 mph is an average speed on a german autobahn... and the roads here are not much worse...

I've done it with my Y2K TypeR for about 1/4 mile trying to race Lexus GS400. I realized that was a stupid thing to do on public highway....maybe on a closed roadways.

our TL's is not designed for the autobahn. the tires and suspension are not capable of handling 140 mph safely. you almost killed yourself and others sharing the highway.

Just for the record...stock TL can handle topspeed of 140+mph based on the brochures I've read. Doing it is another thing.

Blackshadow, Im going to tell you what others tell me when I go that fast. Drive safe bro. I have hit speeds on my Ninja in excess of 140 and its a thrill and an adreneline rush but can also be very dangerous as you already know so just do it with caution. Enjoy the speeds!

Yo Stylin, thanks for the advice. For the record, I am NOT a reckless driver. I know how to control my car. And it's not like I drive 140+ everyday. It just so happens that he wanted to race me.
How many guys or gals here would back down from a race? Maybe 1 or 2 but the majority of you would have raced him like I did.
I have read so many posts on here about people racing in their TL's all over the country. So what's wrong with me doing it once in a while?

Damn, jkc, 155 mph?
The TL can go that fast?

Nevermind that, a Jetta at 155 mph also?
What is this world coming to?

Might be the Canadian version (155Km) j/k

I didn't know our car could go that fast, if so it probably took you a good 2 minutes to reach that speed. I know that even with headers, intake, and all the crap that I have I still have a hard time hitting 130. I can do it but man, it takes oh so long! Now the 540i hit that no problem!

the jetta was seriously modded (it had to be) he had two other people in the car with him. i didn't start to pull on him until about 140. the only bad part about it is that my brakes are still a little sketchy. i hit them at that speed and i thought my steering wheel was going to fall off cause it was shaking so much. i dont know about the 5 speeds but my 4 speed seems to get to 130 decently quick. after that it is slow going though. we were on a long bridge that runs from tampa to st. pete. i was pretty impressed though my previous top speed was 147 (had to slow down cause of cars in front)

I don't know...don't underestimate the VR6's. They are pretty fast. I had a hard time pulling from a 2000 Jetta VR6 when we were going like 80 or so and I have a lot of freakin mods.

Why in the hell would you be racing a luxury car at 150 MPH. Speed kicks ass, but in the right car! Going 150 in a TL is a completly different story than in a sports car. TL's are not racing machines, unless you have the type S. Even then with the bigger engine and better suspension, it's far from a car you should be racing around in. Next time someone wants to race you, just laugh about it. You're driving around in a plush leather car and the other guy has a terribly uncomfortable German tin can. I'm not ragging on you, just be careful. Imagine how horrible you would feel if YOU killed an inicent motorist.
Here's an idea. Instead of driving around thinking that you have the fastest car, dive around thinking that your car is nicer inside/outside than most cars you are passing. Isn't that half the reason you bought it?!!

German Tin Can...speak for yourself buddy! I agree with the points you made, I know I would feel like shit if I hit an innocent person. I don't think he drives 150 all the time, just sharing his kill story with us. I personally drive 80 everyday and often go up to 110 but not racing. I'm just a fast driver whether racing or not. But, you still made a good point!

I didn't mean to rip on Jetta's or any car for that matter. I just wanted to say that the TL isn't a sports car and to be careful when putting it to the test, if not for your sake then for other people on the road. 150 MPH is an insane speed for this car, it's not meant to go that fast. Your arm could twitch from the adrinaline rush and that would be the end of you and most likely anyone around you. Again, I'm not trying to rain on anyones parade, we all love speed! Be careful and live it up!
