i am pissed at my TLS, is it slow!!??

ok, i have a stock 5sp TLS
i jus registered to post, but i've always been a lurker here.
well, i registered because i saw a thread in the TL discussion
forum that a TL-P beat a 2k2 max.
so when i read that post, i went and challenged my friend
who has a stock 2k2 auto max...thinking that i will jus smoke his a$$ easily..i was telling him that his car can't even beat a TL non-typeS

and so i raced him earlier today....and man i couldn't
even pull away from him!! we ran from a red light up to aruond
90-95 and we were jus neck and neck.....we raced again
from a light and the results were the same, except i think
he actually edged me a bit.....then we ran 1 more time from
a roll at about 20mph...he edged me out again up til around 95

so i'm posting this cus i'm PISSED!!!
if a TL-P beat a 2k2 max....shouldn't i beable to beat a 2k2 max??
so my TLS is slower than a TL non-typeS???? if so, i woulda just
bought a damn TLP and save money and be faster

BTW, i always torque brake and i shift manually....i run 14.9s-15.0s consistently..and occasionally 15.1s

:o sorry for the long post....i'm jus really mad

I understand your frustration. When my TL-S was stock, I had a little run with a Maxima 2k2 on the expressway one time as well. I couldn't pull away from him, as a matter of fact, I think he actually gained on me. After I installed the intake, headers, and exhaust, I didn't have that problem with Maximas anymore . But I know what you mean, even with a stock TL-S, we should be able to pull away from the 2k2 Maxima with no problems. It might take some time, but definitely able to take'em.

Why are you guys so surprised??? The TLS only has 5 more horsepower than a Maxima!!?? You act as though it's some 4 banger that we all should be able to smoke. I haven't seen this other post about a plain TL beating a 2002 Maxima... but I highly doubt this ever happened. Your talking 225 vs. 255.

You also seemed to forget his car is RWD. If ours was RWD, we'd really started whoopin up in a whole new level.

Max is FWD as well.... but still.... Max has almost the same HP yet with a bit more torque... so, I am not a bit surprised that you felt short in rolling start acceleration.....

2002 Max is just as fast as TLS in acceleration......

3261 pounds vs. 3558 pounds, Maxima has the weight advantage, almost 300 pounds, also was it a stick?

I can't say that I am suprised... Time to modified!!!!!!

Yeah its slow as a turtle. What exactly are you driving?? I am very sorrry BigPimpin for your problems. What are they fellings of inadequacy or something to that effect forcing you to come here to take pot shots at members here??? Perhaps you should talk to someone about that.

The TL-P beat 2k2 Max easily???? B.S.!!!!!!!!!!!

Even a TL-S if it wins wont do it easily. Both cars are too closely matched. If that TL-P owner did win, that Max driver was totally clueless on how to row those gears if it was a stick. Not much of a race if that was the case.

The Max has similar HP, only 5 less, (initially was supposed to have 260, but Nissan revised the claims on it and the Vspec after all the flack they took with the Q, and it not seeming to have all the power they claimed of it. Not sure how true the 255 rings. The Max also has more torque, less weight, and a stick as an option. Given all that I would have expected the car to be a little faster than what I have seen so far published, but it is still very competetive powerwise none the less.

The TL-P is not faster than a TL-S drivers being equal, and the Max is as always FWD for 2k2, NOT RWD.

man i've been trying reply but couldn't cus i changed my email
and didn't know i needed activation again....

well anyway, someone said this post is BS....why is it BS?

and i said that i was mad that a TLP in the thread said he beat a 2k2 max....and i can't!! here's the thread
http://www.acura-tl.com/forum/showth...threadid=42189
and the guy that beat a 2k2 max with his tlp was praised by lots of ppl in that forum...i think he is fullof BS but no one says he is

i never thought i can beat a 2k2 auto max utnil i read that thread
2k2 max is lighter, more torque and only a few hp less....to me all the numbers go to the max, but if a tlp can beat a 2k2 max...shouldn't my tls beat a 2k2 max?

i didn't say tlp beat 2k2 max easily....i said if a tlp can beat a 2k2 max..then my TLS should beat the max easily

sorry to bring this up again...but i'm finally able to reply

Don't forget the driver. Maybe the 2k2 Max driver did not know how to get the most out of his car i.e. launch, shift points, etc.

I would have to concur. It is the driver that makes the biggest difference when the vehicle specs are close. I would also like to think it depends on who is more crazy. You can probably beat a whole lot of people on the street if you just didn't care about your TL.

2 more 2 cents

If you can't point your car straight and hit the focking gas in an automatic, you are a focking idiot. You need to get your license re-focking-voked.

I'm not trying to get cocky about the VQ35DE's TQ, but if you do just like you suggested, the Maxima will hardly get going because its burning rubber until the stock crappy tires hook up. Not a good thing if your in a race and wanting to win. Isn't it the same with the GS4? You have to be careful with how much throttle you apply at launch to control wheelspin. The first 60 ft. can determine a win or lose if you're a consistant driver (knowing when to shift or in an automatics case, manually shifting)

Here are some reasons why the TL won against the Maxima:

1) Maxima guy didn't Brake TQ, he just slammed on the accelerator and but he didn't spin his tires...

2) He didn't spin his tires.... Maxima guy didn't turn off Traction Control. TCS in the Maxima is EXTREMELY sensative to wheel slips and cuts total fuel to its cylinders rapidly and boggs ALOT of acceleration until the sensors sense no slip.

There are no reasons why he didn't gain back the car lengths he lost at launch which leaves me to believe that something else was wrong with his Maxima, like misfiring coilpacks and failing knock sensors (I'm not going to say its a typical occurance, because it isn't, but it has happened to VQ owners).

BTW I'm looking at a 98 GS400, I might get that car soon

like i said..my car is stock and i run consistetly in the 14.9s ....which is about right. which means that stock tlp is running faster than i am!!! do u not understand what i'm trying to say??
let me repeat...tlp beats 2k2 auto max...my tls barely loses to 2k2 auto max....meaning tlp is faster than tls!!!

i want to know why my tls is slower than that guy's tlp

that's why i dont like to post...too many stupid idiots on here
greenpelikan: the specs between a tlp and 2k2 max is a big difference

Coming to the "darkside" huh?

ScreamingVQ, I was trying to get the point across about an automatic is really not that difficult, no?

Hell the 95-99 Max had torque steer and could peel out (the first FWD car I did that with, I am still impressed) let alone the VQ powered one. I got what 3 maybe 5 friends with Maximas.

GS4 will usually not spin out tires unless you power brake it. THe wet is another matter though. VSC kicks in if it is bad enough.'

Actually, the 95-99 Maximas are also VQ powered.

Hey AcuraTLS, that TLP that beat the Maxima is a total fluke. Most modded TLPs cannot hang with a 2k2 Max. Just accept the fact that the Max and TLS are the same and driver dependent.
