I was $250 Cdn away from a TL-S EBP last night.

I know that I can get one for $38,750 + PDI/Freight/Taxes but I thought I would trade in my '92 Celica GT instead of trying to sell it privately.

It has 257,000kms and the air conditioning and sunroof don't work.

Well, we haggled and it came down to a $250 difference. I wanted $3000 for the trade in and they kept trying to confuse the issue by saying they would pay me $3000 but that I would have to pay $39,000 for the car.

I'm surprised they let me walk but there are plenty of other dealers around.

$250? Can't believe you walked away.....TO each his own I guess.. You will spend more than that in gas and time looking for the $250 better deal...

Principle

Hell, go on-line and spend 5¢ and send your bids out to as many dealers as possible. I went through the same hassle with my trade-in. Even after we agreed on the trade-in (4 hrs later), I didn't want any TL-S they had on the lot. So then they came back at me with "well if it takes us longer than a week to locate the TL-S you want, we'll have to lower the amount we will give u for your trade-in." Bahhahhaaa... I just about spit in the dudes face I was laughin so hard. I mean, we were only talkin bout $300 or so. But sheeet. If it is only a few bucks, why do THEY care so much? I said fine, I'll go down the street. Maybe they want my business more than you do. End of that tune from them...
Stick to your guns.

I'm surprised they let you walk away for $250 difference. I agree with your decision as the price never goes up in a car negotiation. You can always go back and get it at that price. They will probably call you this week. I think car sales will be very slow for the next month with everyone concerned about bigger world issues.

Actually I went back trying to see if there could be some compromise and they backed off their price. Talk about DIRTY TACTICS. See my post re: Terrace Gate Acura. I'm so glad I didn't give my business to these jerks.
