Humming 2000 Ac TL
Dear Reader,
I purchased a 2000 Acura TL in February.
It has approximately 132,000 miles on it.
I got it registered and began driving it at the end of February. Progressively, a humming noise developed. The noise is loud now and it is independent of acceleration.
I decided to get it checked out at the dealership. I took it to Frankel Acura in Maryland.
These are the problems they found:
-Faulty/Bad rear wheel bearings.
-Right Rear brake caliper sticking.
-Rear rotors rusted and glazed.
-Driver side axle seal starting to seep.
I purchased the car from my best friend. His dad was the owner of the vehicle. Since the purchase is still recent and he owns a gas station with a repair shop, I would like to frankly ask him to cover all the costs. However, for the sake of my friendship with his son, I am willing to close an eye and share the costs of repair.
I would like to know how much the aforementioned parts cost either used or brand new. My aim is to pay for the parts myself and have his dad cover the installation(labor) that way everyone is happy.
I am new to the website and it is my first time owning an Acura so I am open to any advice on how to maintain, upgrade, and soup my car up.

if 1 rear caliper is frozen and both sides have rust on the rotor- that means not pressing pads against rotor on braking- requires rebuilt calipers both sides- cost 90 dollars EACH caliper. New rotors 20-30 bucks each for rears, new pads 25-60.
Labor time 1.5-2 hours- the brake fluid needs to be changed with new calipers so you will see the fluid and its condition then.
It also means there is moisture in the brake system and the front calipers will be headed out soon and the master cylinder too.
You are supposed to change the brake fluid once a year starting at year 3 then every year after that. Failure to do that results in tiny rust bits eating the rubber seal oring on the parts.
My 01 never had it done and the same type problem occured- I now have all new everything and a serious stopping machine!
Friendship sales- what a nightmare-
The Buyer is still supposed to have the car checked out by a private tech- this is what happens-
especially when a mechanic is in the family- it is assumed that proper care is being taken- while from the others view- they just keep it running-
many customers dont want right- they want running!!
Rear bearings- havent done them- sorry cant help there
Front axle seal- remove axle and replace 10 dollar seal- 1 hour labor
