Huge Bumper Scratch

I've just purchased a 2003 Silver Acura TL in perfect condition, and accidently scratched the left side of the front bumper on the cement wall at the gas station. And now there is a huge scratch on the left side of my front bumper.

http://www.imagehost.biz/ims/pic.php...i=34221&c=.gif

I've already spent a large sum of money purchasing the car and will not be able to get funds to replace that bumper. I currently have the nose mask covering that scratch.
I was wondering if there was any way of covering up or fixing those scratches myself. Thanks.

other than the nose mask, nope. Those scratches are too deep and too large to buff out or touch up without it looking horrible. Also, looking at the pic, it got a small part of the fender too, so that would have to be fixed also. You are probably looking at a full front bumper repair (for any gouges etc...) and repaint, along with some painting and blending on the fender. If they are a really good bodyshop, they will blend into the other fender too just to make sure color match is as close to perfect as can be.

Good luck, and just keep it covered for now until you get the funds. Dont forget to take the mask off every so often and clean under it. Those things will do some damage if you leave it on there after a wash or rain and not clean/dry under it!

Thanks, I had a feeling that it was going to be a problem. What's an estimate for those repairs? And would it be cheaper if I purchased the bumper my self and replaced it, and then take it in to the body shop for a repair?

well, it doesnt look like it acutally needs to be repaired. the scratches are big, but do not look that deep. It will be labor for removing and reinstalling the bumper cover, sanding it down to smooth out any gouges, and then prep and paint. Probably about 300-500 depending on where you go, and how reputable they are. If you have a hook up, maybe even less. My neighbor is repainting my front bumper and fenders on my S2000, along with filling in a gouge in my carbon fiber hood, and doing some custom paint work with the it also. He is doing all of this for $650.

Ouch that hurts. Is that fender damage or just distortion in the picture? It looks like a nice gouge between fender and bumper. If it is damaged make sure you prep it to avoid rusting. It's going to be snow season soon if not already, and it will be hard to keep clean/dry. Good luck.

There is alittle bit of a scratch on the fender also. The scratches aren't acturally that deep since I scraped it against a wall. So there is no way I can repair this myself, because I really can't get $300-500 right now.

I say try to fix it yourself. What's the worst thing that happens? It looks worse and you have to take it to a body shop anyway.

You'll need:

Sandpaper of various grit
Orbital sander
Body filler
Primer
Base coat
Clear coat

not really, the reason I have to get the hood fixed is because some jackass threw a rock at my car and took a chunk out of the cf, and shattered my windshield.
