I'm curious also. I've heard about 290HP with the headers...is that with headers only or also the Comptech exhaust?

The headers are around 30HP to the wheels which is a little under 40hp at the crank (where the 260hp rating is measured). A true cold-air intake is around 8-12HP (at the crank). CompTech only sells the drop in filter which will probably get you 3-5hp at the crank. The exhaust is only gets you around 1-3hp and is mostly for appearence and sound. All mods added up you should have between 310 and 320hp at the crank. Gas mileage should actually improve with headers and exhaust b/c the airflow of the engine is greatly improved. However, now that you'll have more HP you may drive faster which would hurt gas mileage . Hope that info helps.....

Thanks for the info. Has anyone done the headers only while retaining the stock exhaust system? I'm curious as to if it's any louder. I'd like to keep the stock sound (not too loud), but benefit from the HP gain.

Thanks again.

I have the headers and drop in filter. There is almost no sound difference. It gets a bit throatier at vtec, but mostly only the driver is aware of it. It's definately NOT like any racer wannabe intake or exhaust. The TL-S at WOT is still quieter than a e36 BMW M3 at WOT.

Awesome, this is exactly the info I was looking for! Do the CompTech springs improve performance too (I know they make the car look GREAT)?? Also, what would I be looking at cost-wise to have the headers/exhaust system installed?

Yes the comptech springs do add performance to your handling, since the springs are some 30% stiffer than stock but it is progressive which means the more it is compressed, the stiffer the spring gets, so this will maintain very good ride quality while holding well in turns...I would say anyone can install the exhaust (so dont bother asking someone to do it for you for 70 bucks, other than that, the headers should cost about 1200 installed...)

Question HP Gains from Comptech add-ons?

Just purchased an '02 Aegean Blue Type-S - I LOVE IT!! I'm interested in tweaking the car for more performance, but want to see numbers first. Can anyone tell me exactly how much of a HP gain I can get from the CompTech headers and exhaust system? What about the air intake?? And is gas mileage affected?

Much appreciated!

I would think the CT springs would help plant the front wheels better at a launch -- I notice the significant squat of the TL-S at full throttle launch -- it's gotta contribute in some part to the loss of traction at the front wheels.

I recommend the whole package. the headers, exhaust and CAI for the 320 or so HP and the springs and sways for the look and control of tha HP! The difference is as great as going from a base TL to the TL-S ! (check my sig...)

Hey Wayne:

Any problems with the drop springs in terms of rubbing fenders or suspension parts? I ask because they restricted the TL-S steering to avoid hits, and just wanted to check that the drop doesn't cause any glitches.

The comptech exhaust only gives a 1-3hp gain but the drop in filter will give you 3-5hp?

Is it just me or does that seem weird.
