How uncomfortable is your TL? (non type-s)

When I first bought the car (one year ago in february) I thought it was very comfortable. However, on a long trip a few months ago I found that my back started to hurt after driving only about an hour. It got very uncomfortable and I found myself moving around every few minutes and adjusting the seat (including the lumbar adjustment). Mind you, I am only 18 years old (i drive like you are supposed to, about 12-14 inches from the wheel with the back part of the seat almost straight up, not into the backseat), my car has 116k on it, and it's the non type s, a 99 to be exact. I love the car but it seems to me that the seats in the 99-03 NON type s just suck including the lumbar support. And actually I find myself moving around even on short tips within the past month, and I don't have any back problems or anything like that.

Do any of you guys experience this uncomfortable-ness that I cannot stand?

on the passenger side of the seat.
move it down towards the front of the car.

I find the seats pretty comfortable, the lumbar support helps. I've taken it on multi hour road trips and its been fine. I also sit properly. Try moving the seat around a bit just to change up your posture.

I don't really have any complaints about the seats. I'm pretty damn comfy in my 99.

I sit upright and everything and do change the seat quite a bit. I cannot find the perfect position! haha. I think that my step dads 07 civic is more comfortable, and of course my moms 07 RL is even better. Maybe its just my particular car....idk, its not like the previous owner was large or anything and totally flattened the seats he just was an average joe. Oh well, i guess i will just have to buy a new RL.

In my line of work I have driven a lot of TL's 99-03 non-S and can agree with you. I don't find the seats all that uncomfortable, but compared to my TL-S seats they are. I feel better positioned in the Type-S with more support.

I slide around way too much. I wish there were bolsters that wrapped around me -- especially the right side. I'd swap the seats out for some racing seats, but then I think about the power adjustment, memory, and HEAT. Then I reconsider

Hahah, i slide too much too. I would do that too, except I would hate the look of them in a luxury car.

Acura should take after volkswagen when it comes to seats, but thats it. I love volkswagens seats especially when you get the sport seats. They just hug you and def. keep you in place.

The TL has very comfortable seats. Id suggest playing with the tilt adjustments of the lower part of the seat and try not to sit straight up. I sit in the car on average 5 hrs a day and often times more. Ive never had any issues with them

Thats a backwards statement to most. Most find the TL-P seats far more comfortable than the TL-S seats. The TL-P seats are softer and slightly less bolstered.
Many in the past actually wanted to switch and trade TL-P seats for their S seats.

I find the seats very comfortable in my tlp, and I dont "slide around". I dont knwo how you can slide around in the seat. maybe cuz you are going too fast into a turn.

After re-reading it I can see that. lol

What I mean is that I find the TL-S seats more comfortable than the Premium. I feel they are more supportive (firmer) for me that keeps me comfortable. The Premium seats are softer and don't offer as much support.

And if you keep the leather conditioned. When I get into my car as soon as I hit the left side of the seat it just makes me slides the rest of the way in. Kind of fun if you ask me.

Do the TL-S seats have lumbar support? If they do, I didn't even know that! Something to go play with after work today...

With me being 6'4, it hurts the hell outta my legs on long trips. Especially in stop and go traffic. Other than that, I'm fine.

I'm not sure just look on the side of the upper part of the seat by the center console for a big plastic lever.

i like the type-s seats better because its firmer, but when driving for long periods u do kinda feel a bit sore on the lower back just a few quick adjustments and fine to go.

moving around do and adjusting where u can strecth ur legs and if that gets sore moving in a little tat always works for me.

I can't compare TL to TL-S, but like you I spend A LOT of time in the car. 4, 5, 6 hours at a time (sometimes more, and ALWAYS with trip averages over 60 mph, i.e. I hit the road and only stop for gas), and I can tell you this fsttyms1, "You've got it right."

Firm seats are MUCH better for the long haul than soft seats.

The OP's seat posture sounds good to me - not stretching to reach the wheel and seat back sitting up fairly straight.

I suggest you check pedal distance/reach as well. You may need to tilt the seat/butt cushion forward ( \ ) or back ( / ) to get your legs to the right height and tilt.

Then re-adjust the front/back and the seat back to the previous feel.

I am very short, 5'7"-5'8". And i agree, the firmer the better. TL-S seats are nice, too bad they dont come in fern or else I would buy them.

The lean does seem a bit more comfortable for shorter rides, buuuut I feel like I dont have control over my car, I feel like I am a slob driving a lincoln town car that cannot go over 40mph.

My wife has 03 tl-p.
We drove the car out of town a few time, and we all love the seat.( drove the car a whole day at one time)
Feel like seating on the couch.
Before we got the car 2 month ago, we looked at the type S.
Neither of us like the seat on type S (remind me of 06 accord).
But the type S seat has the side support, so you wont slight left and right.
Will be nice if the seat are little bit soffter

My Seat feels fine, try some euro cars, those seats are stiff. I've always felt American cars were quite the comfort for the tushy.

When I first got the car, I didn't know I had lumbar support adjustment. It took me a week to realize it. I adjusted all the way down because when it's adjusted out, it hurts my back. Maybe the OP's lumbar support is too far out. These seats are cushy and comfortable. The seats in my sister's BMW on the other hand, are very firm.

Hmm...i looked for it yesterday, and couldn't find it. I was looking for a switch (is it electronically actuated?) on the center console side of the seat bottom. Am i looking in the wrong place for the wrong thing (you guys mentioned a lever).

I can't believe I've had this car for over a year, and never knew about this thing! Damn sales guy never told me about it...

I love the seats. But Yea I tend to get uncomfortable in any car after a long trip.

I'm getting new seats from our Japan model. They are meshed.

It's on the right side of your seat (the back part, not the part you sit on). It's close to the center console.

I like my seats I feel they are very comfortable. However if you want seats for comfort not for sport go sit in a Cadillac DTS. For long trips those seats are amazing I dont know what they did to make them so great but whatever it was it works VERY well.

6'4" here also and find the Driver's seat comfortable. I rode in the car once on the passenger side and YUK! That seat being so close to the ground was really uncomfortable. I'd rather sit in the back than on the front passenger's side seat!

I could be going 15mph turning onto my street... speed has nothing to do w/ it, except that it's even worse when I want to enjoy my car in the twisties... It's the fact that there are absolutely no bolsters... That, and I only weigh ~160. The left side is a little better because the side airbag housing or w/e makes the side of the seat a little stiffer/wider. Best seats I've sat in are the leather Recaros in the Evo. Leather, comfortable, and they hold you tight.

I guess sorta true. I would miss the heat and power adjustment more than looks. I think it'd look coole with a nice set of Brides or Corbeau's bolted in up front. Something classy, not like Pep Boys blue seats.
I might actually look further into this. See if a shop can fab up seat mounts over any hardware that is already there so if I want to put the stock seat back in, I can. Hummm...

For me, the seats in the 99 TL are the one thing I would change. They are not very firm at all, and the headrests to not stick out forward enough to support your head like they do in most every other car I have been in. Anyone else notice this?

I both love and hate my seats. They are indeed very comfortable, but since I'm only 5'8" I have to slide my seat up kinda far in order to be a comfortable yet responsive driving position. A telescoping steering column would change all that. I actually keep two memory setting for myself though. One for maximum comfort and one for when I want to be in a good driving position (which I use most of the time, ppl around here can't drive and you never know when you'll need to react.) Overall the seats are nice, maybe slighty too little bolstering, but ya gotta remember the TL isn't a sports car ppl. It's a mix of sport and luxury and Acura does a great job at that in TL. My .
