How stout are our TL's

I just got this car a few months ago, and I said I was just gonna drive it, well my evil side wants to do some modifications, some geared towards handling and my main concern is chassis rigidity, are our tl's pretty rigid from the factory? Could the car handle occasional track use or autocross events....It weighs about the same as STi, EVO and some bmw's, and has close to the same flywheel horsepower.....with I,H,E,supercharger and some chassis tweeks could it keep up with some of the performance cars out there?

well you can upgrade the suspension for sure and the TL will handle a hell of alot better but i dont think you will ever get it to handle like the AWD cars you named above. It is also to easy for STIs and EVOs to do really inexspensive mods and all of the sudden be dramatically quicker. I know some guys have taken the TL to the track and have never reported any issues with the chassis.

Also when modding the TL the only exhaust that has yielded any poweer is the new ATLP exhaust but other than that it is almost for looks only.

Now if you list of mods was I,H, P2R spacers, lightweight wheels, pullies, and supercharger and a good suspension you should be in pretty good shape of course that is after you get all those modifications tuned correctly but yes i believe the Chassis would be just fine

thanks for the info, as I am fairly new to this car, I do not know really what to look for as far as parts......well, at least the "little" parts that make the difference, you are correct in the fact of cheap upgrades on my STi yielded a completely different car, I guess I need to read up on what is available for our tl's......from what I understand, basically the accord is the same car, is that just my99-01 or do newer or older accords share that inter-changability list and what other cars can we use parts from. i.e newer TL's,MDX,RSX and NSX.

headers will yield the biggest gain. and lowering on some coilovers will allow you to adjust the chassis rigidity

Just remember that there are huge differences in the TL and the STI. The TL is a luxury type car that is kind of quick. the STI is a rally car in civilian skin and are built alot differently.

I really dont think if you are used to an STI on a track that you will ever be happy driving a heavy FWD car in the curves. The TLs are fun cars but i know even when i get out of my moms 335 i get depressed getting in a FWD. My TL will be moving over in Jan. for a G35 and i cant wait. I am keeping this car because on the highway its hard to beat as far as comfort and power but i dont think it is supposed to be on a track. just my 2 cents

personally if you are looking to keep up with the sti and evo on the track then a fwd sedan is not for you.
the tl is not a track car as far as i am concerned. It's great on the street and to play around with some ricers. you want a track car then find a cheap project car and build the car you want.
the sti is a 11 lb / hp tl type s is 13.7 lb / hp so the power to weight ratio is a fair bit different.(2006 sti vs 2002 tl type s)

I understand that the TL and the STi are completely different animals, but my question was mostly pointed towards IF the TL could be a p/t weekend warrior and a somewhat respectable car for the curves, I only wanted to know at what point (dollar-wise) I would have to consider another car for good handling, I understand that I will never be able to achieve STi like handling from it, but some fun at the track would be nice. Also, just a car that can corner and I can have fun on the backroads with.

See my post. And with some easy suspension and tire mods it comes pretty close to a stock EVO/STI on a course.

Yes it is a cart track BUT its also wide enough for Auto-X.. I have also been to Road America with it (which is the best road course in america) Black Hawk in Illinois, and Gingerman in Michigan. The TL is great on road courses.
