How to remove wood grain from 03 TL? *Pics*

Im thinking about buying a TL...but the one I'm looking at has way too damn much wood grain. I don't know if it's real or the sticker-like crap they sell on ebay. Can anyone look at these pics and give me some insight?

here are some links to the pics:

Should I worry about the two sided tape messing up the dash if I try to remove the wood grain similar to how it can mess up paint when removing decals/badges?

You could use a heat gun to soften up the tape and/or use goof off to dissolve the adhesive.

Just remember to test the goo remover on somewhere hidden first. It's usually safe on paint, but I've never heard of anyone using it on the interior....

grain

those are tight...why would you want to get them off? if you want it to look better i suggest you to get the black ones, they look alot better because they don't stand out as much and it blends with your black interior, atleast thats in my opinion.

That's all aftermarket stick-on, imitation wood trim. It can either be stuck on with strips of 2 sided tape or the entire back of the trim piece can be covered with adhesive. The only oem wood trim in the pictures you posted are the pieces that run on either side of the console.

The wood trim looks much better on a car with a tan interior. It looks horrible on a car with a black interior. I'd try pulling one of the small trim pieces off, like the one around the gear shift or on the coin tray to see how hard it is and what residue is left.

Yeah, thats waaaayyyy too much wood trimming. I'm glad mine came with the dark wood kit. Try to replace it with that color.

That woodgrain is nasty. My TL has black interior with woodgrain and it would look much better with brushed aluminum (or fake aluminum). I generally don't like woodgrain anyway, though.

NSXNEXT: Have your airbags been replaced? I'd be pissed if there was that big of a difference in color of the unit and dash. I had my dash replaced due to warpage and then demanded them replace the airbag as well because of that - they obliged.

And I like the SSM trim. I would like it on my door panels and console, but not around the vents/gauges. Personal preference.

that is not the OEM trim kit ... it does look nasty ... besides the stock stuff, I have the OEM vents and guage cluster trim ... on the vents it covers the entire surrounding and you only see the fins (like the SSM painted ones in previous post). You should be able to just pull that stuff off and rub the rest off with the palm of your hand ... but it should just come right off.
