HOW to pull my own CEL code?
HOW to pull my own CEL code?
Hey guys, I have a CEL on my car, and just bought a code reader to pull the code myself. Where is the plug for the code puller? I assume it is somewhere by the driver footwell but cannot find it, and search yielded nothing.
Also, I am assuming the correct procedure is to turn the car off, plug in the puller, start the car, and read the codes?
Someone who knows please advise

the OBD or whatever its called is located unter the "not an ashtray" thing. you have to pull the small tab out. it's in the middle - between where the heat seat buttons are. you have to pull that tab out.
btw, you could of saved yourself some dough and just brought the car to an autozone where they pull the code for free. then come here and post the code, and we'll tell you the exact problem..

Hey payyourtoll, what year TL do you have? I believe they moved the ODBII connector on later model TLs. My 99 has it just where whatwasthat said but I believe it's under the steering column on later models.

Well I can either sit at home and wait till the local AutoZone opens and either drive my wounded car to the store, find a ride, or pull my ODBII scanner out of the glove box and test it right then and there.
remove the tab underneath the ashtray.. then stick one end of a paperclip in one of the hole and the other end in another hole (im not at home right now.. when i get home i'll tell you which ones exactly). then, turn on the ignition, look at the CEL, it will blink. count the number of long blinks and the number of short blinks. let's say there are 4 long blinks and 2 short blinks (example), the code is 42. then look it up to know what it means (i'll post the list).

I was under the impression that this only worked on OBD I, not II?
Anyways, like a few others feel, I think the code puller is a great investment for just $50. I also have a policy against Autozone doing ANYTHING to my car.
Thanks guys for the info on the location on the plug. Am I correct in plugging the reader in, THEN starting the car?
THANKS!
