How often do you need to change automatic transmission fluid
Hello,
Year 2000 Acura TL, Acura dealer put in a swapped transmission under warranty at 92K miles.
Can you please let me know how often you need to replace 3.2 quarts of ATF
Z-1 Honda automatic transmission fluild.
I know the owner's manual mentions once every 30,000 miles for extreme driving.
Is 20k miles okay ????
Thanks for any ideas and thoughts.

the owner book was written long before they knew these trans real issues of heat,
and was not written by the tech engineer dept!
you can do all maitenance at the severe service level and not be hurting anything by taking extra good care of it

Do our car have filter for ATF and where? I never seen filter been changed by my Mech.
Every 6 Months, A change of ATF is cheaper than any Rebuilt...
The Filter is Located in a Banjo Fitting, If you see the DIY for the Tranny Cooler its where the Oil Comes Out. Thats the OEM Filter but we Add a Magnefine Magnetic In-Line Filter for Added protection.

I recently paid $85 for a case of the new brew. Price went up from last year, but it is new stuff .
My '00 probably never had a chance when I got it at 103k. Did it then. Should have seen the magnet on the plug!
Did the 3x3 in May, at +40k miles. Plug magnet nearly clean, and fluid running clean and pink after second drain.
Once you get the fluid healthy, you're doing the most you can to preserve the transmission.
