How many of you didn't install your FRONT end license plate?

I'm thinking of taking mine off the front for better looks... i like the clean look of the TypeS w/o the license plate.

Anyone in illinois do this?

IL needs a front tag, its illegal not to have a front tag. I used to live in Buffalo Grove and Schumburg. Cops will give you a ticket, because most of them like to aim their laser radar at the front tag. In FL we don't need a front tag, so its ok for us to keep it off. I only took mine off because it rubs against the bumper and damages the paint.

I wanted to take my license plate off too. It does look better, but its against the law here in WA too. My license plate on my CL rubs and damages teh paint aswell

I was happy to see that there are no holes though

illegal in CA but it looks so much better, so I have to keep it off. Got a ticket for it once while getting a parking ticket - I think the meter maid was pissed she had to walk around to the back of the car to write the ticket for illegal parking so she gave me the other one...

I was gonna take it off but decided not too. Our cars definately look better without them. I don't want to risk it. Cops and Traffic cops can give you ticket for not having your front plates even if you have it on the front dash.

No need to do it here, so it's still sitting in my trunk.

CT requires both if the vehicle can support it; I took mine off weeks after getting the car and seeing that it cut a line in the paint on my bumper. I haven't had a prob as it now looks like the car doesn't have a mount for a plate.

Ohio requires it too but around Cincinnati it's not a real high priority. It helps if you don't park on the street at night.

I've been running my cars without a front plate for 11 years now and have never even had a warning about it. But then again, I've never been pulled over for anything in 11 years either .

Conversely, have you ever sen a car that looked better with it on anyway??

I took mine off and got pulled over a month later by a NJ State Trooper for it. I put it back but inverted it... Looks much better that way...

Hey Mr. , Did you need longer screws to invert it? I tried that but the screws seemed like it was too short.

Yeah I did I went to Home Depot and picked some up. The secret to it that you need to rethread the holes. Its hard to find screws with the small thread at Home Depot. So what I did I got a normal screw and rethreaded the metal piece in the plastic bracket.

When you see it you will understand what I mean....

Notwithstanding the legality as to whether or not the front plate needs to be mounted--if you've had the front plate mounted on the front bumper for quite some time, you may find that upon removing it you may see faint lines where the plate/bracket may have rubbed against the front/center of the front bumper--somewhat similar to what might happen if you remove the mud guards.

Just something to be aware of if you decide to remove the front plate after all these years...

Doesn't every state require front license plates? U could do this, get a license in another state and drive in another.

Arizona doesn't even GIVE you two plates, let alone require them I think just about any car looks many times better without the front plate, except cars with the stupid flat area on the front bumper for the plates. I think that looks bad with or without plates, though :p

I want to avoid causing any trouble with the CHP but I don't want the license plate to scratch my bumper so I lowered it down.

Cheers !!!

MA is confused! The front plate is required on some cars, not on others. They switched over a few years back and if you have an older plate (I do) you don't need one in front.

If you require a front plate, is it OK to put it in the windshield/dashboard region?

You guys aren't concerned with air flow with the plate right in front there ? I'm guessing it's not that big a deal.

Gotta Love the South....No front plate requirements here in NC, or in SC.
I believe in TN and Ga there isn't a requirement as well.

Bought my TL in '99. Decided not to run a front plate unless and until I was given a warning about it. So far I haven't been called on it.

If I do have to put it on I'll probably try to find a way to mount it below the bumper. I think the stock location ruins the looks of the front of the car.

well i feel really good about it. its not illegal here in AR. We also have really good tint laws here. Im getting mine 20 on all 4 windows. the backdoor windows can be 10 while the front can be 25. Guess they dont care out here.

I'm glad I don't live where I have to have a front license plate. It looks so much cleaner w/o one to me.

I live in NY, took my plate off about 5 minutes after picking up my car. I keep it in the trunk so if I do get pulled over I can show it to them and say it came loose. The cops are really concerned with people using the other plate to put on an unregistered car. Never had a probllem yet though.
