Cool How to make a DTC appear?

Anyone know a simple way on the 2G TL to generate a harmless Diagnostic Trouble Code? Like if you pull this fuse, that code gets thrown, but the fact that the code is present isn't life-threatening.

And also, how 'bout making your CEL come on? This one may not be so harmless.

For example, say I pulled a spark plug; would a DTC get thrown and/or CEL illuminate? Except I don't know if having an open spark plug hole is harmless to your engine or not (wouldn't it throw off the vacuum?).

Any ideas? Before you ask, I'm developing software.

easiest way to get the CEL to turn on is to start the car with no throttle body on.

unplugging a sensor might work, not sure about how well it will run though

I don't plan on driving it with the CEL on. I just want it to come on while parked, then I can do my testing my the software I'm developing. Then "undo" what I did to make the CEL illuminate and call it a day.

I just want something that's quick to do and won't F up my engine...which is why I don't want to experiment and am relying on the pros on AZine! For example, if all I had to do was unplug this sensor and not even have to crank, that's optimal.

Ah no, DO NOT do that, Dont take off the TB and try to start the car. There will be Nothing to keep the motor from redlining and it will not be good for it. Probably get some flames and backfire too.

Just unplug a sensor like the TPS or IACV, O2 sensor ETC... And start the car.

Lol, I figured that about the start-with-no-TB-on. Wouldn't the engine be sucking in as much (unfiltered!) air as possible? Thanks for the confirmation!

I'll try the TPS & IACV, seems like the easiest to do.

Yes, there would be no way to regulate the amount of air coming into the engine and it will essentially go to max rpm

You could also unplug a coilpack too.

Easier to pop the hood and unplug a sensor.
