I press the remote start and go out in about a minute or two and then drive slowly at first.

I like to leave mine idling all night in the garage when possible, and use the second remote key fob to arm/disarm the alarm. That way, the engine never loses oil pressure, and it's nice to have the seats heated and the cabin warmed as a side benefit.

Well, I from Canada, and it's pretty cold out here already. I don't warm up my car at all cuz I dont' really have to. I live in an apartment, and my parking is at P4. It takes me a while to just up there. After I exit the parking lot, it doesn't take any longer than about a minute for the engine oil to get back to normal operating temperature...

After the car has sat idle for over 5 hours, all the oil in the engine would have dripped into the oil pan....it takes about 30 seconds to about a minute for the oil to re-circulate in the engine after switching on your car and at this time, you will have to maintain the RPMs of the engine to a bare minimum. Basically, after about 30 secs, you can drive off but take care not to over-rev your engine by flooring the pedal or jack-rabbit takeoffs for the next couple of miles.....all these are basically for the long term life of your engine....

In the short term, you will not notice anything, even if you were to floor it immediately after switching your engine on....

Gomez: were you kidding? Do you really leave your car running all night? Please tell us more.

That sounds very dangerous. A friend of a friend's family once got very very sick from carbon monoxide poisoning due to warming up the car in a closed garage. The dad would warm up the car for a few minutes every morning. They determined that carbon monoxide leaked into the house every day, eventually enough to make them sick.

I let the car run for 20-30 seconds, then go..i don't let the engine rev above 3k until the car warms up. You actually warm the car up faster by driving it, you know..

Since my car sleeps in a garage, I usually let it warm up for about 30 seconds before leaving. I never really get on it until it's fully warmed up though.

I usually turn the ignition on and go. No warm up for me. Yup, my car is inside a warm garage. It doesn't mean I don't have to warm up the engine... but I don't got the time in the morning usually. But I try driving slowly for the first minute or so.

I dont know about TL's but in my Accord manual it says you should warm up your car before u start going, but to save gas, anything more than a minute is unnecessary

I say I warm up before going for about 2-5 minutes when the needle rises 1 notch from the bottom of the oil pres. line.

Yea, I've always been wary of cars coming off lease for the same reason. Never leased myself, so here's a question: I thought you had to maintain the car according to schedule to get the full residual value when you turned it in. They didn't ask for records when the car was given back?!?

Wait till the needle is a little passed C. I wonder if the Accord engine block heater accessory or maybe the oddessey one is compatible with our TL's? Needles to see those freezing New York nights are killers for the first 10 minutes waiting for the heater to get hot.

I drive to work every day so now thats its been cold outside I usually let the car run about 15 minutes. I usually go outside about 15 minutes before i am going to leave for work and start the car and leave it running. So when i get in the seats are warm and i can just go.

This is me FTM-1 I am away from home for a few days at my sisters so I forgot my password & all that stuff so I re registerd with FTM. When I had my 90 & 94 Accord they were manual tran & sometime when it was reaal cold I would let them warm for about a min.The stick would be hard to put in gear for the first few min when changing from 2nd to 3rd.But what I stated in my other post is if its not ice or snow on the windows just drive slow for about a mile.

When it's cold here, the initial rpm is around 1400 rpm when staring on a cold day. I just wait for the rpm to drop below 1000 rpm and then i take it nice and easy.... or after i finish my first smoke ( which ever comes first). This morning, read 4:01 AM it was 21 deg F in Philly... i just waited until my ass got warm from the sit.

15 secs, and go. It is better to drive i than let it warm at idle. BTW, most of the oil is in the pan at startup, but you all seem to forget that the EP components of the oil additive package (extreme pressure) stay where they are needed for cold start protection. This is primarily a function for the camshaft lobesn until hydrodynamic lubrication stasis is achieved (oil acts as the boundary lubricant)

Yes, letting your car idle for a long time is BAD for the engine. Note that in the manual you're supposed to go to the 'severe driving conditions' maintenence schedule if you 'spend long periods of time idling' the engine.

This is because the oil pump spins at a speed directly correlated with engine speed, and therefore oil pressure is at its lowest at idle. Thus, less sweet oil gets pushed into those tight nooks and crannies in the engine at idle than when running normally. You'd see this if the car had an oil pressure gauge instead of the idiot light.

Long story short: don't let the car run for a long time when warming up, just idle maybe 15-30 seconds then drive SLOWLY (i.e. - at low engine speeds) until it warms up. You will know it is warming when the temp gauge starts moving upwards; that happens when the thermostat opens up and starts letting coolant circulate around and through the block. Capiche?

I always let it warm 30-45 secs, then drive easy till it gets up into the "OPERATING" range of the water temp. gauge before getting on it!

Pawel..I wish it was that warm here, last night it was 2 degrees! Even in garage, I have 2 warm up the engine some!

I lease my car, but I still maintain as if it were my car, b/c I may keep the car after the lease is up, & I have 2 use my car 4 work, & I don't need any problems!

I'm with Gomez, I like to pretend it's diesel, and let it idle overnight in the garage. I also sleep in the garage right next to the car.....so sleepy...one time I slept for 2 weeks, then the car ran out of gas, and I woke up....and then..
