How fast have you gone in your Type S?

My dad got his car up to 110 mph one time. That seemed a little slow considering Car and Driver got one up to 147 mph. Would it go faster in 4th gear?

It should, 4th gear is meant to go up to around 140mph.

At least that is what C&D stated in an article

Yea. My dad also went 110 in 3rd, even though the owners manual said that it is only meant to do 104 in 3rd - I think we managed to pass the redline. Shift to 4th and it will go way faster.

The speedo in my Type S has touched 130.

The speedo in my 94 Cobra saw 143 on Woodhaven Road for the Philadelphians on the site.

130 is the fastest my car has seen ... Was surprised how smooth and willing the engine was at that speed.

Problem is I didnt know I was going that fast until I looked down at the speedometer!

Broken 100mph quite a few times because of that same reason ... Have to pay close attention to the speed I'm going now, since I can't necessarily depend on the engine to make enough noise for me to hear

I've hit ~145 MPH, and there was still a little juice.....I wanted to hit the speed limiter, but I was getting scared and just slowed down.

BTW, I was still in 4th gear......You will only reach top speed in 4th gear. Also, the key to getting a good high speed run is to hold 3rd gear all the way to 7100 RPM, and then shift into 4th.....it makes accelerating from 110-120 mph much quicker!!

Where in the hell do you guys go this fast? I'm chicken, cause I don't want to lose my license.
At what speed is a ticket out and a more severe penalty in?

140, rolling from 30 (meaning I didn't start my run from a standing start, and I had already traveled a few clicks down the straightaway before I began my high-speed run)--probably could have gone faster except I didn't seriously attempt to find out how fast I could have gone in the TL-S, i.e., I didn't purposely plan to do so.

I think 29 MPH above the posted speed, but this will vary from state to state.

In NJ, if you double the speed limit (when the speed limit is at least 25mph), then thats considered a wreckless. I forget the rest but over 55mph I think it changes to something like 25mph over the speed limit is a wreckless.

In VA, if you double the speed limit (when the speed limit is at least 25mph), its a wreckless as well.. at 35mph and above, its only a 15mph limit, and anything above 75mph is immediately considered a wreckless (even in a 65mph zone).

I am usually pretty hesistant to break 75mph in VA simply because of that.

I managed to get up to 130 on the NJ Turnpike I think it was, down near exit 6 or 7 when its 3 lanes but no car/truck side.

Well, as long as it's wreckless, then I don't see what the big deal is for going double or more over the speed limit.

Only 120 so far in the TL-S. (I just hit the 1000 mile mark)
132 in my Mustang, top down, windows down, '92 Vette chasing me.

By the way kids, don't try this at home...

I've got a ticket for 68mph in 35mph zone in NJ. Did not get reckless driving. Just 5 points on the license ($322). I never was able to get my TL-S to do more that 120mph. It kind of falls asleep in that area. BTW the high speed performance is where German cars have a big advantage over Japanese. In my girl-friend's 540ia I can easily hit 155mph on the speedo (probably 140mph real).

hit the 147, speed limiter went off. since i was in vtec at that speed, the car could easily push more. however, it would not go much more due to drag. oh yeah, dont try it people, it is scary cuz the car starts to shake.

i found that every thing over 120 on any thing other than a interstat requires 2 firm hands on the wheel. my needle has gone way past the 150 mark on the speedo and have never incountered the limiter on my 2000 tl. top speed is aquired in 4th on 5 speed tl's

There is no limit in montana, my family has a house up there. Well in some places there are. It says, maintain reasonable speed or something like that.

I thought Montana repealed the "no-limit" law once they were told by the government that they would lose or not receive as much federal transportation grant money or something like that...but I could be wrong.

i dont think your TL-p could past my TL type-S in 3rd. unless u have turbo charge. Because in 2nd i got to 75mph, and when i got to 3rd it took me up to over 100 mph without any problem no noise at all, but i afraid of the ticket so i let the gas padle go.

That's due to speedometer error. The odds are you were really going 104 at redline. The faster you go the higher the error is.

That also plays a roll in top speed. The top speed of the car is 147mph... that's where it's limited. However, I've seen posts (not in this thread) in past topics like this where people were doing about 153 or so.... again... speedometer error.

Fastest I have gone is 105. Not many places to go much faster in Westchester County.... especially at rush hour when 90% of my driving occurs.

Heh. I hit 130 this past weekend. Passing other cars at such speed was an adrenaline rush, but neither safe nor smart. I only hit 130 for a few seconds then let off right away. My legs started shaking.

Yea...I think the speedometer was made so that there will be about a few miles off of what your actually reading on your speedometer. I was going exactly 50mph, but one fo those speed posts showed 46mph. This one pondered me for awhile because people told me its ok to go an extra 5+mph. Guess it makes sense now since your not really going any much faster...Damm people playing mind tricks on us!
