How do we get more Treble from the Radio?

Im aware that this may have been the subject of several topics, however the lousy radio in our car has really hit home. I guess I was looking at my car through "rose colored glasses" and I thought that in was incapable of any flaws -- however I really HATE the stereo in the car. In order to rectify the situation, I visited several electronics shops in the area (Best Buy, Sound Advice, Brandsmart USA). All of the aforementioned notified me that we cannot add tweeters (or anything to make the radio sound better) without changing the head unit. I really dont want to do something so invasive -- such as change the radio, because of cost and i like the factory finish look. Do any of you know how to make the radio sound better (and I know that I can turn the treble all the way up.)?

Your advise, is appreciated, as always

A friend of mine just got an RSX Type S which also has a Bose system. He added a $120 equalizer, nothing more, and the highs sound 10 times better.

I must not be too much of an audiophile as the stock system satisfies me most of the time, but the difference the EQ made in my friend's RSX is amazing.

I don't understand what you are talking about not being able to add tweeters. Add some high-pitch tweeters, and I promise you'll hear a lot of treble. You may have to customize where you'll put the tweeters, but you should be able to add them with the stock head unit.

I noticed that youre here in Florida as well. Could you please let me know where your friend had his work done? (assuming he didnt do it himself).

As far as adding tweeters -- the electronics stores said they cant with the HU i have.

Doesn't surprise me, I don't think you can have kids after you've had bose...

I have heard the same (can't add anything) from shops too. I am going to check out some replacement face plates one shop had, they said it would look stock (as far as blending in).

Someone put in a new amp w/ the stock speakers and head unit. They claimed that it sounded unbelievably good.

I know for a fact that you can add tweeters to the stock HU and you can definitely hear the highs much better. A lot of guys here in the northeast had it done at Streeteffectz and the sound is amazing for just tweeters.
I am planning to add tweeters soon to my stock HU because I like the way it looks and blends in.

I did and so have many other people on this board. I put in a new amp/subwoofer to my stock HU and speakers and the sound is amazing. The bass is literally shaking my TL.
Even though the stock speakers are good, I will be upgrading them soon and I am also adding tweeters. But I will be leaving the stock HU alone. I am planning to add 2 more amps and subs also. I guess I am an audiophile.

I totally agree, this system sucks. The head unit is fine, it's these damn paper mache bose speakers. Go to the audio section on the TL site. Alot of guys have added to their systems. Equalizer would help with highs, but my complaint is the base sucks. Speakers and a sub in the trunk seems to be the answer. I put a kenwood system in my 85 4X4 P/U sounds twice as good as this mickey mouse set up. But I love the car

Thank you all for your respective replies. Now, if any of you all are in the South Florida area, could you please recommend someone who will modify my radio, as none of the major "chains" will.

By the way, Im Asian (Indian) and I enjoy both Treble & Bass.

Thanks

My friend's brother installed the equipment for him. However, there is an EXCELLENT shop near me called Audio Logic. They do absolutely top-notch work. They also have another location in Fort Lauderdale somewhere. I don't have the number handy but I'm positive they're in the phone book.

They're one of the few places I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

This is a particularily interesting thread in the audio forum. I think DJSTEVE's got very good info on how to improve the sound with the stock head unit, but it ain't easy...

Call me crazy or maybe there is something wrong with me, but i think the stock system sounds good. I listen to rap, metal, and rock and they all sound fine with some adjustments to the bass or trebel depending on what i'm listening to. I was all worried before I got my car that the frist thing i would have to do is change the system but i was pleasantly surprised. The only thing that I don't like is that you can't random play between all 6 cd's!

What am I missing why does everybody think the system sucks?

Have you ever had a high end system? I don't mean that to sound like an A$$, but its something I've found true, one system can sound good until you've heard a better quality system. I went through hell picking my home theater system, but I can play the same CD in my car and in my home theater system, and there are things you can't hear in car that are very clear in home theater. I thought Bose were good until I was exposed to a double blind test and then it was very clear that they didn't come close to comparing with higher end brands. You had to really listen to pick up difference's between higher end brands, but the difference between them and Bose was obvious.

I am hesitant to change the system because I don't want to do anything to invasive that might introduce squeaks or rattles...
