how do I remove factory radio?

please don't flame! I did a search & same up with info on 1st gen & 3rd gen!

I have XM commander & sick of low quality sound....so I ponied up the bucks for a blitzsafe adapter & need to know how to get the factory unit out.

Am I better off paying a shop to do this, or can I do it myself?

Anyone have a link to the DIY for removing the factory head unit?
Any of you studs installed the blitzsafe? Did it make a difference?

Thanks all!

supposedly, you dont have to take out the radio if you have small hands. if you do, then you can just take off the passenger side panel and connect the blitzsafe to the back of the radio. if you can do this, then i would recommend it b/c taking the radio out is a pain if you've never done it before.

I need to replace the radio/changer for an 02 TLS without the Navi. Is there going to be anything different than what is illustrated in the link above?

Thanks

I have a Commander/Blitzsafe setup in my TL. The signal is clean, especially if you're used to the crap signal that comes through an FM modulator, esp in urban areas. Hooking up the Blitzsafe is very easy after you get the radio out - it plugs right into the hookup for the CD changer. It may seem hard to get the stock radio out at first, but after you do it, you've also learned most of what it takes to access your dash gauges, etc. Good luck.

Got Er Done!

Blitzsafe is now in (with commander), and the sound is SO MUCH BETTER then is was w/the crap fm modulator! Seeing XM in a whole new light. The highs are high, and the lows...well, they actually exist! VERY happy

FSTTYMS1 - The link you've provided no longer seems to be valid:

http://www.abunchofcars.com/diy_pag...ter_console.htm

Does anyone else have a link that shows how to remove the HU? Interested in installing an adapter for my iPod that connects directly to the input for the CD changer.

Thx!

there really is no need to remove the radio...i installed the blitzsafe without removing it. you just have to remove the passenger side panel, and with A LOT of patience, you can plug the adaptor into the back of the radio. Luckily, it only took about 10 tries in 10 minutes and i fortunately got the plug in.
