How do I make my paddle shifters fully manuel? I hate how the gears change on its own

If I cant have full control over the gears, whats the point? For example, If Im driving 60mph on the highway with paddle shifter on gear 5 and stop at a red light. The gear will automatically go down to 1. Take off in gear 1 and it automatically shifts to gear 2.

I want to be able to change the gears on my own without being corrected. Is there a way to make it so I could leave it in any gear I want and it stays in that gear till I change it? If not, then its useless.

I don't believe that there is, other then shifting before the car does it for you./..best bet, buy a 2012 SH-AWD with the tech package and get a 6sp MT!

the car is doing you a favor downshifting when you stop- or many would forget and try to take off in 5th!!
the 1-2 auto upshift on certain years is helpful in parking lots- when you got off the freeway in SS mode and forget- now whizzing thru parking lot at 25mph
the engine would redline if not for auto upshift!

Please read up on our weak point = the 3rd gear clutch pack, and how downshifts at max rpm into 3rd and 2nd will generate excess heat... leading to clutch pack failure and clogging of the torque converter = no more trans!

If you insist on shifting thru each gear why did you buy a car with an automatic trans?
Good news! WHEN you blow this one up = there are 6 speed manual trans from accords that drop in for about 1500$

better to use D5 like the car was designed around, then to mis-use SS mode and encourage problems
BRAKES are relatively cheap- especially compared to a transmission!
Use them to slow the vehicle and trans to speed it up!

NOTE You CAN NOT out-think and out-shift the computer...
no matter how much you believe its possible

BTW Acura gets 5 grand for a rebuilt trans! online `white box` programs are avail. Rebuilding yours or similar unit from another car is a waste of money,
when accord trans are better design and found at most junkyards

Welcome to the forum , some info on your car: year, miles, your location= can help us diagnose problems or find a neighbor to come help you out with a problem diy
Thank You for joining us~

free owner manual: Acura Owners Site | Exclusive Knowledge, Service, & Benefits is filled with tech info- up and downshift speed limits etc
need cars VIN to register, can look up recall info for your car there
And verify recall info with any acura dealer- service or parts desk can run the VIN
and know what is OPEN- needs to be fixed
There are recent ones for airbag inflators- airbag Takata problem and a few others!
recalls are free to you as owner- be it 2nd or 10th owner- the car VIN is all that matters

also register with acura care- they send out recall notices to last known owner address
1 800 382 2238 x5 gets a human, need that VIN again!
ask them about open recalls or special extended warranties that may still be in effect
example seatbelt system, airbag warning and occupant detection system parts- still covered after all these years?

Doh! just read thoibois' post again- thought it said get a car manual,,not a manual car!! oops
get the owner manual anyway- FREE and helpful

You are trying to take off on 5th gear from a death stop? have you even driven a Manual Car???

If you dont want to be Auto-upshifted from 1st > 2nd just Gate Shift instead of SS.

Get a 99 TL if you don't like 1-2 automatically, 00-Up is like that by design.
Even an 05 TL I drove is the same.(same transmission)
You can gate shift but beware.
