Question How do I know it's time to replace my brake pads?

Hello,

I'm on stock rotors with EBC Greenstuff pads. I know it said on the box that the pads don't have the metal insert that makes the pads squeek when they are worn down. Can anyone tell me what the signs are that it's time to replace them besides taking them somewhere to get looked at?

Thanks!

Joe

you could take off the wheel and look to see the thickness of the pads, if its around 3/16 to 1/8 you might want to think about replacing them

And it's the front you have to worry about the most. So don't be lazy and take the front wheels off and check the pads.

You dont want to wait so long that the pads are worn, and you are chewing up your rotors. Neglect them too long, and you'll need to change everything; not just your pads.

A perfect time to check pads is when you rotate your tires. So keep that in mind the next time you have that done.

The shaking, or vibration is a sign of warped rotors ... nice avatar btw

I think (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong) the EBC Greenstuff pads don't have the metal inserts that cause the squeek like the OEM pads. Actually I remember reading on the box they came in they had a specific warning to have the pads checked for wear every 3k miles for just that reason. And me, being the lazy guy I am, certainly didn't chek them that often
