TORRANCE, Calif., Apr 3, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- American Honda posted
its best-ever March sales result, bolstered by a new best-ever month for its
Acura Division -- and all-time record sales of its light trucks.
American Honda March sales rose 1.4 percent over year-ago totals to 106,347
according to figures released today by American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Sales of
Honda and Acura light trucks showed a 9 percent increase to 27,425 units, a new
one-month high for the company. American Honda calendar year-to-date sales of
283,564 rose 6.5 percent over last year's record setting pace.
Acura Division sales rose 31.7 percent to 15,982 in March, boosted by all-time
record sales of the 3.2 TL luxury sedan and the hot-selling MDX sport-utility
vehicle. March totals bested Acura's previous one-month record of 14,871 set in
August of 1989. Acura Division year-to-date sales are up 36.2 percent over the
same period last year.
"From an industry perspective things appear to be cooling off a bit, but we're
bucking the trend with some very strong new products," said Dick Colliver,
executive vice president of sales for American Honda.
Year-to-date Honda Division sales of 241,514 are up 2.6 percent over year-ago
totals. Accord sales of 37,647, up 5.5 percent in March, added to the American
Honda increase. Accord year-to-date sales of 106,312 are up 18.9 percent.MODEL BREAKOUTS

I wonder if that was because '01s are going for at or under invoice. I suspect that will slow down when the '01s are gone.

When all the 01 TLs are sold at invoice, I'm sure it would go fast.
'01 TL had very good value without any help from '02 TL.
March sales/1st quarter
Lexus 20,700 51,540
BMW 17,300 46,700
Acura 15,982 42,050
Did MBUSA released the numbers yet?

TL's have always been Acura's big seller since the 2nd gens came out. I think they're going to continue this super hot selling trend on them for a long time. The only reason why those MDX figures aren't near as great is because production is cut so low, otherwise they'd be a lot better.

I just got my '01 TL at invoice and all the accessories at cost! They are trying to do everything they can to push the older ones off the lot to make room for the '02 models which are going right at MSRP here in Houston. It doesn't seem to matter whether you want the Type-S or not, they won't budge much on the price of either.
