Exclamation Honda/Acura Paying out $6 Million for overclocked odemeters

If you've been wondering how your Honda or Acura just seems to cover ground an awful lot quicker than your previous ride without even getting you a speeding ticket, listen up. Apparently, around six million Honda / Acura owners have been wheeling around in vehicles that are clicking off miles quite a bit faster than they're actually being driven. The Society of Automotive Engineers' voluntary standard for fluctuation in an odometer "is plus or minus 4-percent," and strangely enough, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration doesn't even regulate it. Honda claims that its units were "accurate to within 3.75-percent" on the high side, but a lawsuit against them claims that's just a bit too close for the average consumer's well-being. The automaker will be shelling out over $6 million in overcharges for leasers who were unfairly penalized for exceeding the agreed upon mileage, and will also extend the warranty mileage five-percent. Of course, Honda has since tightened up its standards (read: fixed the programming bug), purportedly "aiming for zero" in regard to future error, but if you happen to own a Honda / Acura purchased between April of 2002 and November of last year (or a select '07 Honda Fit), these benefits should be coming your way pending a district court judgment on the settlement.

but you should get a 5% extension on your warranty. It blows because higher millage affects resell value .... so I get less cash when I trade it in.

Damn bro relax. Even if it was off 7 or 8% that would only be 7000 or 8000 miles per 100,000. I am not saying it isnt important, but it's not a huge deal.

Relax? Are you serious man?

It's just another episode is what I'm venting about. Our cars brand new cost over $30K and some of these issues just get on my nerves. I expect this sort of shit out of GM or Chrysler, but not Honda/Acura is all I'm sayin.

Don't get me wrong, I love my TL, but I can do without the tranny, OnStar and other issues. I know the mileage thing is not that big a deal, but the OnStar and tranny issues are an issue for me, and I'm sure others will back me up on that.

I agree, TL's arent a Geo Metro. I would only expect that a Geo would have a tranny that craps out prematurely on all the vehicles they made. I guess people just like having to spend a boat load of money on their TL once the factory tranny warranty runs out. This is just the tip of the iceberg it seems.

I feel the TL-s is crap the mileage a bit fast, but the deal is "Vehicles covered in the deal: 2002 to 2006 Hondas and Acuras bought from April 13, 2002, to Nov. 7, 2006. Some 2007 Honda Fits also are included. ", so it wont effect for me as bought on Dec. 6, 2006?
Someone who has 07 TL/TL-S has the same feeling abt the mileage? or they already tightened up?

I dont agree with your feelings. For one do you know for sure yours is adding up fast or is it just due to this coming out your angry? Not all do it. and not all are the same. Also i dont see any thing wrong since its is under the limit for the sae standards. Hell full to worn tires can cause a few percent off as well. Nobody bitches about it then
Before jumping to conclusions test yours with mile markers on a trip or with a GPS to see if its off or not. Also most all cars vary.

I hear you man, like I said, the mileage thing isn't really that big a deal to me, it's just the fact that GM and other domestic car makers didn't have any odometer faults according to some of the news reports I saw. In fact, GM's had 0% variance and then the article stated that Honda/Acura will now set their tolerances to 0% as well. Just wondering if they should of been doing that all along, but I guess they did what they had to do.

My BIGGEST concerns are the tranny and my OnStar, not the mileage deal. I don't know for sure my car is affected by it. 4-6K miles isn't that big a deal, especially since I have the 100K acura care anyway. My TL for the most part has been a very good car to me and I don't regret buying it. Plus, it's paid for, so I'm keepin it for a long time!!
