Question honda/acura parts - really necessary??

I know a lot of folks use different oils/filters, but how about stuff like brake fluids, tranny fluids, air filters and the like?

For those do-it-yourselvers out there, should I use the acura/honda brand, or are there any other recommendations anyone else has?

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

No, it's not necessary. Most people go with either K&N or Comptech air filters, etc. Some have used Red Line, etc. for their tranny fluids, but I'm sure that costs more than Honda's tranny fluid.

For tranny fluids will be better stick with Honda ATF-Z1 and also Honda Coolant too, beside these two like Engine oil, filter , brake fluids... I don't think it matter as long as you follow the owner's manual spec should do just fine.

I agree about the tranny fluid. Use Honda fluid. That way the dealer doesn't give you crap if you happen to have tranny issues.

thanks for the replies.

how much can i expect to pay for the honda tranny fluids? how much will i need? can i get somewhere other than a honda/acura dealer? thanks in advance!

I called a local acura dealer, said I would need 3 qts; they go for $3.92 each. Does that sound about right?

damn, maintenance is a biatch. i need to take a class and learn how to do a lot of this stuff myself!

actually, i don't give a crap about tranny fluid...right now at least cuz it breaks down anyways regardless of Honda ATF or cheap craps...so might as well put the cheap craps in there.

I change my own oil and I use Honda oil filters, but instead of getting them at Acura, I go to the Honda dealership and get the one's for the Accord for about half the price.
