1. First press the two outside button to clear everything.
2. Second point your remote and press and hold both the garage remote and one of the buttom you want to use until the light on the homelink blink very fast.
3. Third Press the learn button from the garage opener and run to your car and press the same buttom that just used to learn from the remote and it should work.

Remember to do one and two when you far away from the garage and when you did it then drive to your garage and do the last step.

Yea you have to program your opener (the big honking thing that opens your door) to recognize the new device - the use what they call a rolling code so that people can't copy your opener and get in your house.

i dont have it but it can be used for unlocking your doors, and turning on lights. (all require a home link device at home for those features.

We use homelink for 2 garage doors(left and right) and the entry gate to our neighborhood (middle). I think you can even use it with remote activated lights, but I'm not sure of the details.

You don't have to clear all three before re-programming a button. Just use the same instructions just don't clear it first.
