Homelink
Has anyone had trouble with this? I can't figure mine out. I do it exactly as the instructions say but I get nothing...I have a brand new garage door opener too!

Did you follow the directions for openers with rotating codes? It was in a section a couple pages past the programming instructions. Almost all new openers have rotating codes for security, so there is an extra step you have to follow. Basically, you have to push a button on the opener, then while a light is flashing activate the Homelink button that you programmed. The manual gives you the details.

My wife (a very mechanical woman) and I tried to program ours and screwed it all up. Called a customer of mine who owns an overhead door sales and service company. He said he loves calls like that one, the customer has no idea what they are going to do to them!
Bottom line: $70, but it included the normal servicing and our door is now silky smooth and quiet.
The code to our neighborhood gate is too high a frequency for homelink so I have to carry a remote, anyway.

first step actually is to press the 2 outer buttons at the same time and hold both buttons until you see the light start blinking (means the it's ready to accept NEW commands or signal)then release both buttons. Now it's time to enter the new signal from you're garage opener by pressing the button you want and follow the manual. Hope it works now on you're opener that's how I found on mine.
I been trying to program my garage opener ever since the 1st day I bought the car a month ago and it seems it would never work.
Does my garage opener have to be Home Link Compatable or will it work with any garage openers?

To all my fellow TL owners who are having problems programming their homelink to their garage door opener. First thing, if you try and program it using the first step (where you take the remote and place it in front of the homelink and press both buttons at the same time and it doesn't work?) you have a rolling code garage door opener is most likely if you have a newer opener. If that is the case you must do the following.
1. Clear any codes in the homelink by pressing the outer two buttons.
2. Leave the garage door opener plugged in and find the button on the unit (you may have to take off the plastic cover).
3. Press the button on the unit(the light will start flashing) and run like hell to your car (you have about 30 seconds to get there.)
4. Put your garage door opener up to the button that you want to use and press the garage door opener button and homelink button at the same time. You may have to press the homelink button 2 or 3 times until you see the light flashing. It should work then.
After my husband unsuccessfully attempted it, I took over and had it done within 1 minute. I'm just mechanically inclined!!

I have never had a problem with anything I have tried to program. 3 different garages, 2 gates. All worked fine. I sometimes have to get closer to some of these but it still works regardless. Also, when I do use it, I have noticed that if you are not pointed towards the device, it doesn't work the first time you press the button.

Gabriele,
Thanks for the great advice on "rolling codes"--and the inspiration. I had set the seat memory, and my favorite radio stations with ease on my new TL-S yesterday. But the rolling code deal had me reeling. However, I re-read your post, climbed up the ladder, waved to my wife, explaining that I could "set up homelink as fast as any girl" and went to work. Result? At one minute, you're still the champ. However, it only took two tries, there were no lost time injuries and homelink works. And, I only lost two minutes of driving time.
