hit and run in parking lot

i left my car in the parking lot at work yesterday and when i came back to get the car for lunch, i noticed a huge dent in the front right bumper. Some idiot hit the car and didn't leave a note. I tried searching the parking lot, asking the guards, etc. I ended up filing a police report. I just have one question, is the insurance premium going to go up? I have pics of the dent, if you guys can tell me how i can put them up, i will.

Since it was a hit and run and you filed a police report, insurance should not go up. You'll have the pay your deductible.

Might wanna consider paying out of pocket. Not sure what your deductible is, but if it's $500 or more, it may not be worth reporting it.

I totally feel for you man, as my car was hit this past weekend in the parking lot of my apt. complex.

Got the damage appraised today....$554, and I have a $500 deductible!

Ooooohhhh a $54 check coming my way.

Keep searching your parking lot....the person has to come back to work in their car sooner or later. Was their paint left on your car, and did they take some of your paint? If so, then you're in luck. Just keep looking. Then give that person a nice beat down outside of work!

Why didn't you just pay it yourself and not report it to insurance?

I agree. Even though you tell your insurance that it was a hit and run, but you can't come up with any information, i.e. license plate numbers, your insurance will most likely find some bogus reason to jack up your rates next year.

I hear you man... samething happened to me a few months ago at a parking lot in front of this movie theatre. I got it fixed at a dealer (Rallye) and total came out to $890 (new front bumper + labor).

I'm not sure if $890 was a fair price to pay... Even though they did an excellent job.

Because I had no idea how much the damage would cost to fix. I didn't know it would only be $54 above my deductible. Who knows, it could have been $300-$400 above my deductible and then it would have hurt me not to report it.

And just b/c something is appraised at a certain cost by my insurance company, doesn't mean it won't cost more to actually fix it.

I'm just protecting myself.

And my insurance should not go up, and I was told that it would not go up, due to a hit and run. If they decide to jack my rates for some assinine reason next year to make up for this incident, then I will choose not to deal with a shady company like that. But USAA has always been very trustworthy and reputable in my book. So I don't expect it to happen.

No regrets.

we have a $1000 deductable. don't ask me why, that was my parent's idea. my dad is taking the car in this weekend to get it appraised. Some of my coworkers tried searching the parking lot, we couldn't come up with anything. There is no other paint visible except for mine. There are surveillance cameras in the parking lot that i checked but they pretty much suck because they only take still pictures and not continuous video. i can post a couple pics if u guys can tell me how.
